Diffuser discolouring

The outside of the near side of my diffuser has turned from its original black to a rather horrible white colour.

I am unsure what is causing it. Too far away from the exhaust to be heat.

It is going white. Any tips on how to restore the colour?

Thanks
Jamie

PS - That’s not a reflection in the photo. It is white in places.

I got mine powder coated. Looked great.

Mine has gone a little like that under the U bend of the exhaust where the heat deflector had rusted away. It’s only us Exige anoraks that notice

I guess it’s getting hot under the U bend. Best check the heat protection, but they are allowed to do this with time. So long as it’s not premature due to a fault.

My old one did it, I just resprayed it and it was good as new. I need to sort U bend on mine as the heat shield is missing and I need to replace

She is 12 years old so the discolouration cannot be attributed to a fault. Powder coating looks like the way to go. Thanks all.

If it is anodised, the dye can bleach over time with heat or chemicals, so anything even mildly acidic or alkaline such as some cleaners/detergents/degreasers will take colour out.

Another possibility is simply wear over time. Looking at where the colour has gone, it may be slow wear from road grime thrown up by the rear wheel.

By fault, I meant the nimbus has disolved, or more likely the screws holding it in place have rusted away allowing it to move out of position and therefore allow direct heat radiation. Worth a look.
