Difference B4BP and the B4BPU from Exige S1

Does anybody know what the difference is between a B4BP from a Elise S2 and the B4BPU from a S1 Exige?
I know that the drive ratio are the same buts what different?

One has a U at the end. The gearbox is the same whether it is fitted to a S1 Elise 111S/190, S1 Exige, S2 Elise in standard form, some Rover 25’s - I have never seen a casing or sticker with a U at the end.

The only place I have ever seen the Exige gearbox mentioned with a U after the B4BP bit, is on Seloc. So it must be true!! Or not.

Was the suggestion in the SELOC thread not that there was an ultra close ratio box available as an option?

The 340R had the ultra close ratio box option from new but never heard of the S1 Exige having the same option ?

Yeah, it did. I think Brendan (ex poster on here) had one fitted on his yellow car.

It reads that Brendan put the UCR gears in himself ? I could be wrong ?

I do have a UCR fitted in mine, which I had fitted.

i don’t know if you could spec one from new, but it was certainly available from the factory as I enquired about getting one fitted + retaining the (original 5th gear) as an overdrive 6th :open_mouth: :sunglasses:

My Exige has an B4BP fitted but with a fd ratio of 5.2,wich is extremely short.
I do not drive often on the highway but if i want to make longer trips a normal CR gearbox is the better option for me because on the highway i now turn 4700rpm @ 120kph.Ive heard here that a normal CR gearbox turns 3600rpm @ 120kph.
Now that ive been looking for a normal CR gearbox i want to know the difference between B4BPU and the B4BP,maybe there is no difference i don’t know.

I still have my standard S1 Exige CR gearbox in the garage but getting to it means moving my cars, it’ll be the weekend before I can get access.

In what way do you mean difference ? Outer casing ?

The only thing i think is that the bearings are different or nothing is different.
I want to keep my gearbox complete so when ive changed it and i want the UCR gearbox back that i stil have it,thats why i am looking for a B4BPU gearbox.

yes i think like Backtobasics B4BPU = B4BP with uprated bearing
The option exige was B4BPQ with lsd I have on my exige a B4BP with lsd Rover torsen A
