As my car was looking a little scraggy after winter I packed her off last night to be detailed by Scott at OCD in Bolton. Had a call today to say the job was not straight forward as the paint is quite soft (the reason it seems to scratch quite easily) so is taking longer than planned. (as you have mostly figured nothing ever is straight forward when I’m involved).
Hopefully I should get it back tomorrow morning now along with full pictures of the job start to finish so I’ll post them up when I get them
Paint being soft makes a detail easier and therefore quicker.
I know a little about detailing
Ah thats interesting, maybe I am getting something wrong? he mentioned it was hologramming and marring and he was doing a two stage or something. Can only see how it turns out I guess it was a mess before. I’ll keep you posted.

Holograming comes from using a polish that has a strong cut and introduces its own low-level of scratches, you then follow up with a lighter polish to remove these.
So if anything the paint is hard, not soft hence the high cut polish. In my experience the two-stage machine polish process will give you a better finish so although you have had to wait hopefully you will get a good result.
I had my S detailed March 08 and have just reread the write up.
“The paint was healthy although extremely soft and correction was fairly straightforward. The angles and proportion of the bodywork panels were quite cumbersome and on occasions a switch to 4 Sonus Spot Pads was needed for tighter areas.”
The whole process of detailing a car is an art - one I have to confess, I do not the patience for. To keep the paint is some sort of condition I use the twin bucket method of washing and application of Chemical Guys - XXX Hardcore Paste Wax time permitting. Still looking fairly good on this.
“mopping” a car is a very skilled job indeed…
best left to professionals imho…
Mopping an Exige would even give the pro’s a tough challenge as the complex curves are all to easy to break through with the mop…
