Guys
Looking into the future I’d like to refurb the full dashboard. I thought I would alcantara it via Allon White and have been talking to John as usual. He says that due to the concave nature of the S1 there is no easy solution.
I had no success painting it keeping the windscreen in place Rob. I tried and the paint shop did too. I paid around £250 for a new windscreen from a place in West Bromwich and had a chap fit it. With the front clam off it took him 10 minutes to remove and half hour to fit so wasn’t the big hassle people clam it is. The paint shop used a texture bumper paint to paint everything except the two upper dash panels and binnacle which Allon White’s trimmed.
One thing this glass fitter did say was to use an FJ Glass windscreen, they fit better then Pilkington.
A fellow member in a german forum runs a professional paint shop in Vienna and gave some information on the topic.
He recommends Nextel, colour code S139, deep black, as a replacement:
He provided me a small bottle of touch up paint which I used on some small scratches on my dashboard. It works quite well as you can see in the picture below marked with a red circle.
Got mine flocked by Autoflock, can’t remember the cost, but it was definitely less than £100, looks great and stopped the annoying sunlight reflection I was getting.
Thanks Klaus, that’s really useful. Is it a decent enough match for areas slightly bigger than a scratch? I have a couple of small parts which are 1-2mm in size where the senotex appears to have either chipped or flaked off in the past.
the touch-up paint is easy to apply but only for scratches and things like that. Painting a bigger area won’t produce a nice surface as you would expect it when just using a tiny brush.
The guy who provided the touch-up paint may paint your stuff professionally when you send it to him. If you like I could give you his email address.
Just let me know. By the way he drives a heavily modified Exige S1 on some local club race events.
