Damper Decision

OK here we go. Time has come to make a decision on dampers for this year. Looking at the following options

  1. Nitron 46mm Pro 1 way’s
  2. Ohlins 46mm 1 ways - extra 1K over above
  3. Ohlins 46mm 2 ways - another 500.00 on option 2

I know 2 ways are better but I am happy for a ‘set & forget’ setup because bump/rebound setttings do my fookin head in.
You can easily spend hrs on a TD fookin around with settings rather than just driving the car.
Just want to adjust 1 thing - the damper to get me to the track without bouncing into the scenery and then at the track.

My big dilemma is will I in my shiny white racesuit notice 1K’s worth of difference between the Nitrons V Ohlins.
My thought is probably not - what do we all think ???

DISCLAIMER - I WILL GET DT AND TELL THE INSURANCE COMPANY

Sorry, I know its been discussed before but if you can’t be bothered to play with the bump/rebound on a track day and are looking for fit and forget, then why would you need any of these. Your existing dampers are more than adequate.

Spring rates and ride height are the 2 main reasons I guess.
The 2010 MY cars cannot be set low enough on the 2 ways and I would like to up the spring rates. By the time I’ve done the springs etc I could sell my original’s and get the 46mm Nitron one ways with stiffer springs and a lower/better ride height

Option 4 could be Nitron 46mm race pro 3 way at 900 more than 1

Come on Chris!

Option 1 will give you everything you want and need! And they are just a superb damper! :sunglasses:

Get cracking now and you can have them on for Donny on the 5th!

Use the other grand for all the other stuff you have in mind!

DT and insurance I would hope.

Shameless plug I know but the attached link has photo’s of a set of Exige S2 46mm one ways,

Keep tight hold of that credit card LOL !!!

Seems that would be the way to go then. Go for it.

Get the Nitrons and spend the rest on DT then, my one way 40mm Nitrons do make setup very simple and that suits me down to the ground

I’d look at the Quantum dampers too, apparantly they are very good. I believe some of the elise racers are swapping their nitron/ohlins for them.

Good point. Had a quick look and the 2 way’s are around 2.2K.
They’re only a 41mm piston though and I thought the bigger the piston the better. Might be wrong though.
Anyone had experience of Quantum ???. I’ll check SELOC as well

A chap I know had a set of quantums, they had issues with the rear adjuster location on the S2 exige, in a nut shell you could not get to it once fitted. May of been changed now though.
How come your Ohlins won’t go low enough? I am sure they are the same ones JF runs and his car corners like a house fly.

Boothy

JF’s car is pre 2009MY. I had a 2007 car and with the same dampers managed to get my car as low as I wanted.
Looks like the later cars are slightly different

Chris, I had a chat with Nitron today at autosport about the 46mm 1 ways. I’m very tempted myself.

Anyone got any recommendations for spring rates? Mainly for track use.

Hi Wes!

The 46mm are just the biz!

I went for too soft a rate initially… now on 550/700’s and the car feels better damped that OEM! Cannot believe it!

But given you are driving a wefer thin N/A, perhaps a bit less!

Give Guy a call… he will get this right for you… and if the spring rates are not right he will make sure they will be!

Nitron give TOP levels of customer service mate. :sunglasses:

Andy real problems getting for fronts lower that 126mm. Will be altering spring rates next year and machining uprights…well not me personally, JS Racing. Ran out of wedge this year lol.

Option 5- Ohlins 2-way 36mm TTX

http://www.ohlins.se/test_ny_artikel/Automotive/TTX36-Inline/

I know I know… before anyone comments on piston sizes they are completely different technology and new to the market…

Me - id be saving my pennies for a set of these!!

How much pennies would be required ???

Don’t worry just found the prices on the Tritek site. MMMMM…

how much then?

Anyone know by how much you can increase the spring rates on the standard 2 way Ohlins whithout needing revalving? Can you use 550F 650R springs by varying the comp/rebound settings or is this beyond their operating range?
