Planning a few changes next year and just wondered what different setups people have with there VHPD’s at the moment?
Standard with a Remote PRT
Standard 190 with a remote stat.
I was all fired up to get a PRT when I first got my car but Phoenix Motorsport, who have a fair bit of S1 Exige experience, were lukewarm(!) about them if I recall, so I never went ahead with it. I just warm up thoroughly (see recent thread elsewhere)
Mine:
DVA’d head
Larger Valves
Colisbro valve guides
Piper 1444 Cams with verniers and double valve springs
New late-spec liners
Omega forged pistons (pocketed to suit larger valves)
Arrow rods
New heavy-metalled crankshaft
Fully balanced bottom end
Baffled sump
Ported inlet manifold and exhaust manifold
PRRT
Oil thermostat
MLS head gasket on peened and skimmed head, late-style oil rail
380cc Injectors
Motec M800 control system.
Yet to see how it goes though Ask me again in 6 weeks.
Are there any stroker kit for the vhpd to increase the capacity??
No stroker kits, but by going to a Scholar-modified block you can run thicker liners and bigger bore up to 2L.
Much like Esprit but not quite!
Have a look at this…

But I wish it was this

Scholar 1900
R500 cams verniers
PRRT
Baffled Sump

Balanced

Done 800 miles now since Dave rebuilt it so still taking is easy.
Counterpoint to Thommo, the GM at Engine Developments (EDL) was shocked I did not run PRRT with my rebuilt K2000. EDL’s primary experience is with MG ZR’s but apparently only PRRT is used with the K. I have it now, but I ran it a season (15hrs) without it.
Mine is: K2000, part of the first batch produced for MG works team, so it has the original lower compression, but it has the final versions of cam and intake manifold. EDi’s Euro 1 ECU. Curiously, it is a wet sump as well.
The engine is constrained by the VHPD manifold, which differs (read: smaller) from the BTCC final manifold spec. But I can’t fund a custom one-off exhaust manifold…
This is SimonE’s garage “setup” for all his VHPDs

What was your reasoning behind getting an M800 rather than the cheaper M400?
That could be Erland’s broken Honda collection

Needed the ability of the M800 to use unassigned injector/ignition outputs as auxiliary outputs. Ran out of outputs on the M400.
Oh ok fair enough. I have gone M400 as it does everything that I need, but I am using it with a Motec PDM which gives you loads of extra outputs that you can use for the ECU via can-bus.
FBW takes about a zillion outputs and inputs
Aah yes, that’s the best thing about MoTeC; the expandability. I could have used an extension module but trying to keep the weight to a minimum dictated trying to do it all on the ecu
You can’t get to 2L without stroking it as well.
Hi
Yes, I do a stroke short block of k series to 2.0k since 5 years.
Please you see; www.vgkracing.com
Thanks and all the best
