Cup shear panel

For all those who have considered this as a cheap upgrade like me, please beware.
Is it cheap? Yes
Does it work? I’ll let you know next week.
Can you fit it at home with a jack? Just
Will it really pi$$ you off while fitting? Yes

well as I had the exhaust to fit back on, I thought I have the cup shear panel I may as well fit it as well, easy I hear you say, not quite…

1st there are 6 new holes to drill!
2ndit need to be quite high up in the air to drill he holes
3rd 2 of the holes are quite large! 8mm to be exact and they are nearest to the middle of the car.

will you burn yourself on hot swarf while trying to drill the holes? Yep

does the centre undertray fit back after? Nope! :frowning:
do you have to move the gear change cables? Yes
do you have to cut down one of the naca ducts in the undertray? Yes

Overall a cheap item to buy, but get it fitted on a ramp and best by someone else

Don’t forget halving the life of your rear tyres as well

not that they last long anyway

Not a problem for me - I have the Moroso sump so the panel doesn’t fit!!

If I et a gpan or morroso I will modify the sheer panel to fit, now i know how it fits, there is space with a bit of work to make it still fit I think

So why do tyres not last as long with a shear panel?

because it gives you more grip

Lotus quote 30% additional rear stiffness which equals 1500 miles out of a set of rear A048’s

Ouch! 1500 miles? is that all track? And its all down to increased rear grip?

Nope - mix of track and road. 70% road, 30% track

Does make a difference though

Till yo feck around with the dampers apparently…

Hi Ade not with a gpan it won’t without a great deal of modification. Got Gpan and was going to fit the shear panel but when John and Wayne from JS Racing and me craweled underneath to try and figure out how to get it to fit the conclusion was a definate no no

Now considering this http://www.sector111.com/products/performance/suspension/substiffy.cfm

Nowt like a good “humped toe”!!

A guy who I know just had a camel tatoo’d on his toe, seriously.

1500miles out of 48’s?
That would be great. Where do I sign up?

I’m also looking at the Sector 111 solution.

At my rear end !!!

Well I didn’t notice any more rear tyre wear than normal, I used the same pressures as normal, however from my limited ability my rear end did seem more planted and it gave me a bit more confidence in places, all in all a good (if annoying) addition for the money.
