Crank

What are the benifits to knife edging and lightening the 2zz crank? Overall with a full engine rebuild, valves, cams, springs, pistons, rods etc what will it do performance wise? The std crank from what I’ve read seems more than up to the job in terms of safety so before I splash out I thought I’d ask you bunch of brainy tossers lol

Tar

I think Frank has done this, might be worth contacting him?

Neil.

Or wait…

He’ll be along shortly I expect

Lol…Good luck with the new car buddy

Cheers, still getting used to the performance which is pretty epic

Neil.

It looks nuts tbh. How’s the car condition-wise?

Bodywork wise it’s better than the Exige apart from some stone chips on the front. From the receipts it has been well looked after.

This is another mine field, reducing weight is a good thing for a crank, less rotational mass has a similar affect to a light weight flywheel, knife edging is suggested to help it cut through the air easier, I’m not convinced it would make a big enough difference to mortals like us Merc in F1 it probably does?

It is definitely a case of diminishing returns. The most important thing with a crank is that it is balanced properly not only to itself, but in relation to the pistons and rods you are using.

You know my opinion mate. Stop F**king around trying to polish your turd of an NA and simply stick a super charger on it and go fast. The end.

The beginning more like !

Yep this is what I’m thinking and that is what I’ve read.

Yep read that as well.

read the rest of my post, you know it makes sense!!!

I didn’t see anything else buddy

Ok, so the crank is up to the job as is, lighter and knife edged may improve performance but would it help as well as fitting a baffled sump and accusump reduce the chances of oil starvation.

Instead of messing with a supercharger why not have John build an Audi lump = Lots of power and no broken gearboxes - Job done.

Not worth the effort or money and there was nothing gained on the dyno…
I have a new stock balanced crank in the engine now…
Unless you are looking to buzz 10k and hold it there stay stock… No one has ever broken a stock crank that I know of.

NA is for chicks…It’s always better to be blown.

Cheers Frank, 9k max. Kind of confirms my thinking from earlier. Big strong fella you…
