Cracked windscreen

It was just a matter of time really but I need to get the front screen replaced as it has a pretty massive crack running across it. Its covered on the insurance, albeit with an excess ofc.

The insurance company just gave me a number for autoglass but I’m not sure that sits well with me, not exactly lotus specialists. Maybe I’m worrying over nothing and its just as straight forward as any other car screen replacement but I thought I would ask here first.

Also, I’ve heard that we can now get heated screens which would be nice to have.

Any thoughts?

Cheers

John.

Autoglass are fine in my experience.

Heated screens are nice, but you have all of the wiring and a relay to sort. I used to have one in mine, but it cracked almost immediately, so I do question the quality of them.

I went through 3 windscreens on the vx220 and one on the exige - all replaced by autoglass, and they were fine everytime.

It does take them a full day to change in though, and they will need it in their workshop.

Just got off the phone to them, was a bit surprised that they will need the car all day. Good to hear that they know what they are doing anyway.

Thanks chaps

It’s a long job - front clam needs to be removed, or least partly unbolted to enable proper access to the windscreen surround (to avoid high risk of cracking the new one!).

I got a dealer to do it.

My last two experiences with Autoglass have been negative …
1)front screen change on a Golf pissed water in…Had to be done again .
2)side window replaced on a Golf …Fell out in a couple of months .

No way would I trust them to de-clam my Exige !!

I would insist Lotus dealer only if it were mine .

I’ll take photos of the front area before I drop it off, saves any arguments if anyting gets damaged while they are doing the work.

Fingers crossed I guess

Fixed that for you

Auto windscreens did mine on the drive, took just under 2 hours

^^ LOL

At least you have cctv to backup any damage claim !
Wonder if the fitter booked 6 hours ???
