COOLING & MISFIRE

CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT TEMPERATURE AN EXIGE WITH A 190 UPGRADE SHOULD RUN AT ON THE ROAD? ALSO HAS ANYONE HAD A MASSIVE MISFIRE BETWEEN 2-3,000rpm AFTER CAR HAS WARMED UP?

SOS … — … SOS … —…Calling Pesky, Calling Pesky…Where’s Pesky?Do you think he’s ok??

Mine runs at 82C, occasionally dips down to 80C.

ok no need to shout !!!Mine runs at a steady 80, creeps up to 90 in standing traffic and drops down to 65 briefy if i accelerate hard.No misfire at those revs, have you checked the plug leads are tight in the ignition coil and that the spark plug ends are ok ? Unfortunately the holes in the cylinder head will fill up with water (through the roof vent) and rot the plugs and leads.

Mine runs at 82-4ish whilst on the move, but creaps up to 96 when idling for more than 5 mins; then the fan kicks in bringing her down to 82.Hmmm…may change the thermostat to make the fan kick in earlier. Any thoughts on this Phil?

KP,If you have the 190 upgrade then the thermo should have been replaced with 82 one, 89 is the standard.Changing the thermo will not make the fan kick in any earlier, its temparture controlled by the ECU, I have the Emerald and set the fans to come at 92.I wouldn’t worry to much about yours it seems to be in the normal range, what is worrying is the huge drop from 80 to 65 when accelerating hard, all that cold water is causing thermal shock to the head/engine which is not good !!I will be fitting Geary’s remote stat when my car gets put together.

Phil,Thanks for the comments on the thermostat issue - I am not going worry too much. Seeing mine is a 190 version, I may check which thermostat has been installed.BTW, what’s the situation with your motor - you’re not still using your missus’ Exige, are ya [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image][This message has been edited by Kp (edited 20 December 2002).]

Me motor is still in bits, some parts are in the garage and some of it is in the kitchen keeping warm [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]and yep still using the missus’ car [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]BTW X401XCL I HAD THE MISFIRE THIS MORNING BETWEEN 2-3K AFTER THE CAR HAD WARMED UP, IT WAS WET LEADS AND PLUGS !!

My car is std and runs 82-84C normally, the fan kicks in at 95C and goes off again at 87C… all according to my STACK readout.I have never had a misfire as described above.PhilI’d be a bit worried if I saw the temp go down as far as 65C after the car has been driven to normal operating temp - don’t you think this is more like a faulty reading from the temp gauge? Or have you got modifications in this area?[This message has been edited by RoxTeddy (edited 21 December 2002).]

Rox,Its one of those things that happen even after driving for 10+ miles in this weather, accelerate hard and the themo opens letting in all the cold water [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/frown.gif[/image]

Yup… its thermostat thats the problem. It can let in far too much cold water, heat cycle the engine and cause the head gasket to go…What you need is a remote thermostat from Geary…down the bottom on here. http://www.eliseparts.com/upgrade.htm

BD this is v interesting stuff - there is jus so much to know about these cars and their idiosyncrocies - mine sticks at 80-82 until in traffic then goes up to max 88 - so far!! - has anyone tried Geary’s upgrade?

Bri has one fitted [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]

So has RussT [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]

Yup… I have one.Temp stays rock solid at 82… even if you cruise and then suddenly boot it, it stays stable. Beforehand it used to swing up and down pretty violently.Well worth the upgrade!! Bri
