Coolant Level

Guys
Should the coolant level in the header tank be up to the seam in the tank?
Or
Should it be higher??

Also NEVER put tank cap on top of engine when it is removed, as I did, slightest knock and it’s fallen all the way through and is sitting on the under tray…DOH!

Jack up, wheel off to retrieve.

Doh!!

Did that with one of the small fuse box covers the other day, only it vanished into thin air, never to be seen again. Ended up having to get one from a BMW dealer and found out it is from a BMW motorbike of all things.

What about the coolant level???

I am pretty sure there is a ‘max’ mark on the header tank, but it is round on the engine side so tricky to see.

Oh and sorry to have bored you with my fuse cover story. haha

mines lives just below the line when cold and goes up to it when hot.

No, no, fuse story very heartening as I called myself all the names under the sun.

Found the markings by assuming “The LOTUS position” and yeah it seems full when cold is about where the tank seam is.

It would seem from anecdotal evidence that the absolute level differs from car to car and even from time to time.

The main thing is just to establish a norm and ensure you maintain it at this level.

Did the same with the oil filler cap but it lodged at the bottom of the manifold - took 3 coat hangers and about 45 mins to recover!

Between low and full… did that with a rubber Ohlin bump cannister stand off, disapperaed…wheel off and a right PITFA!!!
