I believe the forge benefit is mainly anecdotal as no real comparison has been done. Nor do i think has there has been anyone who’s had just the forge fitted without other mods
Tim seriously you are in denial and thats not a place in Egypt. Many people have fitted the Forge and all have said there is a big improvement. The figures do not lie, every car CN’s has dynoed with a Forge has showed at least 10bhp on top of a stock intercooler 260 car. All done at the same dyno.
I know of at least myself and MarkS2 who fitted the Forge to stock 220 cars and it made a difference you would notice, I did not tell Steph I had fitted mine as I did not want her to know I had just spent 500 and even she noticed asking what I had done as the car felt quicker.
There is no way the Komotec solution is a proper charge cooler, they put a water jecket on the standard crap intercooler and a tiny rad in the wrong place in the nose of the car, that is why I got proalloy to design mine for me
I suppose we should now answer the poor mans question…
Things to check for…
Not much actually
Make sure it has not been crashed
Central locking works (common failure if fitted)
Heater fans work correctly (clam off to fix)
When cold the 3rd gear syncro can be lazy and you get a cruch, sounds crap but doesn’t really hurt, just knock a load of cash of the sale for it.
Ham fisted people destroy clutches, so watch out 800 to replace
otherwise just general wear and tear, not much goes wrong really.
I think the point a few of us are trying to make is that the standard Exige S is not as fast as Lotus claim it is. If your going to spend around 25k on a sports car then you need to know what you are really getting. The Exige S will not do 0-60 in 4.1 or 0-100 in 9.9 seconds…Even with 260 horses it still won’t get close to the 0-100 time. However, if you spend a few K on upgrades it will be a proper sorted car.
I really must stick my V Box thing on and try the 0-100, I think with 260hp you could mange a high 9 to 100, with mine at that HP I did a 12.5 quarter at 112
While 0-60 and 0-100 times are for pub talk, in the real world its the 0-100 time that counts. That said I left a stock 997 for dead the other night at a set of traffic lights and he was trying (probably too hard by the sound of his exhaust). Our cars are nippy from a stand still until you get to 3rd gear and aero starts to play a big part. With 300 horses I’d imagine you’d have a proper fast Exige.
I managed 8.9 to 100 with the dynolicous app.
Also managed 12.2 (113mph) 1/4 mile without really trying - that was doing the standing start at 3,000rph (standard clutch )
As an aside from this - another area to really look at is the Aircon system.
Make sure it works as if it doesn’t it will probably need the pipes in the sills replacing (condenser at front, pump at rear so door sills/chassis members have pipes running through them for coolant and aircon). This is quite an expensive job regardless of where you go.
Thanks for input, may go and have a look at car tomorrow.
Out of interest what are people’s thoughts on LSD?
Used to race caterhams and LSD made a massive difference.
Most people dont worry about an LSD as the traction available on a standard 220 or even 260 is so great you wouldnt really need it. When the '48s are up to working temp they are really really grippy. Combine this with decent driving, shock setup and geo and you’ll have no probs.
I suspect those running 300hp+ will suggest an LSD is useful
