MMG have now finished their Chargecooler kit, it includes:
Full size high efficiency pre radiator (to be mounted in the main rad stack due to size - not a nose mounted small rad like the Hanger111 setup)
Uprated, higher efficiency + larger core standard radiator Chargecooler in polished alloy (Satin black powder coat available at extra cost)
Bosch pump
Polished alloy header tank
Ally heatshield in silver heat reflective coating (carbon heat shield available at extra cost)
2 X large spall motorsport fans
All pipework, brackets, sundries, etc
The fans are top mounted for better efficiency…not bottom mounted.
Both the rad’s and chargecooler are made by Radtec exclusively for MMG.
Full review comming soon as to exactly how well this kit performs (it’s fitted to my car ready for collection and mapping, etc this weekend). What I can say for a fact is that it uses an increased core in the chargecooler than the Pro Alloy one, combined with a larger core radiator already included in the kit (not at extra cost like other kits) plus it comes with a heatshield and an alloy header tank - both also not found in other chargecooler kits on the market right now (Pro Alloy, Hanger11, etc).
Price: 1,250 for the full kit
with a fitting/labour price of 600 to 800 (variation depending on age of car) at MMG (Sutton Coldfield)
Costs comparisms:
Pro Alloy chargecooler kit 2012.00
Hanger111 1585.00 + Uprated Rad + exchange of your old intercooler
For those interested in the MMG kit I have secured a Group buy deal from Liam. Prices below:
Group buy:
1175 for 5 people 1110 for 10 people
If anyones interested either PM me or leave your name on this thread or call Liam direct at MMG Performance on Tel 0121 323 5149. He’s away for a week from this Saturday, back open again on 3rd May.
I think your best bet for group buy is to fit the chargecooler on an Exige S or Katana, get it remapped with a smaller pulley & injectors and publish the before/after dyno results.
I would buy one tomorrow if I could slap it onto my katana setup, wind the boost up to 9PSI and get it remapped so power is 275bhp+ and 200lb/ft.
Problem with the katana setup is the need for a new inlet manifold and other components to fit the CC, sincs spent a lot of time and effort to make there CC kit work and get it in production, fitting one to an S is easy by comparison. Sadly there is still quite a bit more to getting 275hp+ and 200lb/ft of torque
Your best bet is to speak to Liam. In the 2 weeks he had my car to develop his chargecooler kit he was constantly back and forth to the machine shop guys with design alterations to make all the brackets, etc better with each revision. Whilst my car was there he also fabricated a couple of “one off” bits. I only mention all this because if you need the chargecooler kit to be altered in anyway to fit a specific setup he’ll be the man to do it.
Even Jim at 2bular was impressed with Liams metal work options and general engineering skills when making things work properly.
Like I say speak to Liam and go from there - he’s heavily into his cars and making things work well (i’d go as far as to say he loves a challenge!)
I have spoken to Liam a couple of times, trying to help out generally and hoping he would finish the extended diffuser for the S2 he has suggested he will make, but he seems to have never got round to it try and convince him to make them
lol…Ade it’s just not fair mate. Not only have I beat you to the large bore manifold, decat and GT3 exhaust from Jim - which BTW he’s only made and suppled 3 to date - me, you and a guy in the states but I’ve also got the extended diffuser you mention on the car from Liam now (!) If I could post up pics I would but I’m an IT leper and don’t have a clue. PM me your email and I’ll send you the pics that way, it looks really great…and of course longer than a “normal” after market diffuser, in fact it’s effing massive.
As mentioned above by Blacktoy… I have no doubt that the MMG kit will be good, but would like to see some figures once that it has been remapped and a smaller pulley fitted.
Dont worry, it’s happening. Stroll on the 7th May, I’m booked into Sinclair’s for a larger fuel pump, smaller pulley then custom mapping and rolling road sessions. I’ve been told I may need a set of 550c injectors too, basically if all the mods work well together I’ll be needing them too(!)
Anyway full write up with all the figures/rolling road numbers after the 7th May.
I only have 440cc injectors, not sure why you would need bigger unless you are going for more boost than me? I think Dan said I was at 80% duty cycle so still had headroom, but not much.
apparantly Wayne had a cup 260 car in for mapping and the duty cycle was on the limit at 270 bhp. Trust me - i didnt want to buy the 550c injectors…i’d have settled for the ones in the car already and spent the 280 quid on beers!
The Lotus 440 are from Denso and from I know, these are more well-known than the RC.
However, I’m still searching for the reference of the Denso 550… So if anyone knows…
You guess wrong I am afraid, RC are well known for having crappy atomization, Lotus fit denzo which have very good atomization. Middo had a link somewhere showing how poor the RC spray pattern is.
My RC’s are fine and have been since they were installed, don’t know of anyone who has had issues with them, but if they were crap I’m sure we would have heard of loads of issues.
Ade there is quite alot on the web about the atomization of RC injectors, I am not saying they don’t work, its more about how effectively they inject the fuel.
As I say Middo had a linky somewhere. Its out side what I know but from what I read it leads to a need to be tuned to the injectors, poor idle etc.
RC’s are cheaper than the denzo and bosch etc so probably offer quite good value, I am not knocking them just correcting a statement they must be better than the lotus oem ones.
As you say I cannot see a need for 550’s to give 300bhp, there are loads of cars out there around 300 running 440’s.
Coming from both tuned imprezas and evo’s RC’s are nearly always the 1st choice for injectors…and ones flowing loads more than 440 or 550. Also in the states the RC’s tend to cost more than the Denso’s…I know because I’ve been out shopping very recently for a set.
If you find the link about the atomization issue pls post it up…i can’t find anything on the 'net.
