Looking to replace the clutch on my 240s having got a bit over excited at the last hill climb its at the top of the travel and can’t be far away from slipping?
Is this a reasonable DIY job ? I have a 2post ramp and am very competent ! Just never worked on an exige before?
Planning on fitting an unrated clutch hd engine mountings, a letsla kit and fully sinthetic oil at the same time, any other mods I should do ??
Dave
I’ve recently done the job myself, not too bad but did need another pair of hands just to get the box back on. That said I did it on axle stands in my single garage.
The bite point does seem to be a bit high on these cars, all 3 of my clutches have been
I too have fitted the mount inserts, letsla and MT90, all improvements.
Thanks JP1
I will give it a go can’t be harder than rebuilding my mk2 after every rally??
Haha, no big deal at all really. From memory it was a pretty simple process:
-
Remove airfilter for access
-
Remove LH suspension and pop the half shaft out, dont pull on the joint, there’s a groove you can stick a pry bar/slide hammer in. It just needs a shock and its out.
-
Remove starter
Remove all but the RH engine mount and support engine and box. -
Drop LH exhaust bracket
-
Remove gear linkages/anything else attached to the gearbox.
lower the engine and box until it clears the sub-frame (might need to loosen the RH lower wishbone to allow it to drop far enough) -
Remove box, drink beer while surveying mess, wondering if it will ever be put back together again!
While I had the box out I stuck a lightweight flywheel in, made a bit of a difference, not massive tho.
I’ve prob missed a few details, someone else may be along to fill in any blanks.
Have fun.
