"Clucking" from the front

My car is impersonating a chicken at the front.

The “clucking” only happens when I am moving and only if I am not on the brakes, as soon as I brake it stops. It sounds as though its coming from the front and right in the center of the car.

Can anyone advise anything to check ? It happened after my journey down to goodwood and back from manchester and is starting to get worse.

Cheers,
Dave.

It’s the brake pads rattling. Mine does it,it drives me crazy.

Yep mine too, until I fitted some buffer pads. Now silent as a mouse, oh apart from the ear piercing squealing at low speed

buffer pads - how to/where from/how much ?

Yep I get the squealing at low speed. I changed the pads (RS14s) awhile ago on the front, so is it because they have worn out a bit ? Also, do you know how long a set of RS14s last (number of trackdays) ?

Thanks for your quick response, I am glad its nothing terminal.

Cheers,
Dave.

You can probably pick the buffers from any good motorfactors. Try to get the large sized ones as you can then cut them to any size you need. They’re called “anti-squeal shims” to give them the correct name.

RS14s should last a good long time (unless you’re name is Gavin ). They do tend to wear your disks quicker though unless you’ve got better disk material than the OEM.
Can’t say how long as it depends on your driving style.

Performance pads tend to squeal a lot, especially with harder disk material. My SBSs didn’t squeal at all with the OEM disks, but are terrible with the new Alcon rotors.

RS14’s and Alcon rotors = mouthing sorry to pedestrians when the lights change at the crossing and I have to stop

I keep on thinking they have quietened down,…so far I have been wrong.

Yup that is true Andy. They are absolutely fab though, treat em rough and they quieten down.

I concur and had no squeal probs with mine this arvo.

Who fitted yours? Perhaps that’s the problem (tee hee).

Ian

mine too, were noisy/squeely till I did Donington

it was on the verge of coming back, then i did Knockhill

are you sure the anti rattle springs have been fitted the correct way around - it does make a difference…
