This morning I broke the sound barrier getting over to a localist paint shop.

New paint acquired, sprayed and lacquer erm , lacquered.

Awaiting it to go off and will flat it with 3000grit paper and polish

Looks a mile better!

I tried to get the front bumper off but the nut was spinning the bolt and stuck. Got fed up so painted the brace between airbox and ECU.

Then played with my new parrot remote control so I can actually hear it.

Rock and roll!

After pestering @DiamondPerformance for an age on whatsapp I got down to 3000grit wet and dry , a lot of warm soapy water then some cutting compound which I applied by hand.

For an amateur effort its a solid 8 out of 10 and I dont think you would notice the repair unless I pointed it out. Sure the lacquer isnt super glossy but it doesnt catch the eye either!

Happy overall.

An early finish from work and a bit of sun meant I could break out the wet vac.

Glad I did. Some serious dirt!

The offside front pads have been sticking. I noticed it , the MOT station noticed it too.

I have today had the wheel in the air, and removed the caliper, cleaned the piston up and noted the pads were seriously uneven in their wear. The outboard pad was wedged in and took some gentle persuasion to come out. The inboard fitted well.

I have filed a small amount off each “ear” on the sticking pad , and swapped it to inboard.

I have been out for a quick spin and it’s better, not perfect. I suspect I’ll have to check all 4 calipers to ensure they are clear of crud.

Nothing else exciting to report.

Do you have any idea why my window seals look like this? They appear slightly dog eared.

Can I fix it?

Nice car , as seen in the Youtube video.
You are world famous now in the UK

Nice exige with 300hp in the vid.

I have noticed that since its been drier than the Gobi desert my cup has started creaking. I note 3 distinct creaks.

  1. Clutch. It doesnt feel terribly smooth and every depress of it results in a eeeeeeerrrrrrk sound like a comedy sound effect on a haunted house door open

  2. Front right suspension. On compression it creaks. Its a short creak but a creak never the less.

  3. Steering. When really slow and steering left or right I have two creaks that I think are related to the steering rack. The sound doesnt eminate from the suspension areas as far as I can tell.

Anyone have any quick checks for these? Or any simple remedies?

Tonight I changed the front pads on the car from RS4-2 to OEM Brembo.

I desperately need my callipers refurbing but I am delighted that the grinding noises have stopped when braking.

I noted that there were cracks in the pads and in one corner it had disintegrated.

Whilst I had each respective wheel off I used some silicon grease on the ARB bush, and top mount

Squeaks be gone! Off on a 90 mi round trip to play football tomorrow. Let’s see how long it lasts.

I can confirm that after a 80mi round trip the creaks are gone and the brakes feel and sound much, much better.

After the disappointment of not being able to fix the Exige I thought Id turn my attention to the Clio. Might as well have two cars off the road …

I wanted to paint the scuttle cover plastics and check that I had no nasties underneath it so I bought a wiper puller. Good job too! They were solid!

Fortunately other than a few spiders webs everything looked ok. There looked like some surface rust but after a gentle persuasion with an old toothbrush the muck came off.

Quick rattle can with some black and put everything back together again.

I need to do the front grille as well , but that’s for another time

Any tips for getting the red colour back into the seatbelts?

Cup is now warm and dry inside while the Loltus is gone.

Took to opportunity to grease the clutch for and cable. Made loads of difference and now doesn’t creak.

Ive brought faded garden furniature back to life with a small cooking blow torch, but dont think thats advisable in your car!

It wont look any worse! A few people have suggested a heat gun!

My boot was opening slowly and slamming shut.

Cue two new struts being purchased and the boot trying to eat me when I took one off.

Both new struts fitted now. I have to take care not to get uppercut by the boot on the way up and can pull up on the handle on the way down.
