Classic Le Mans - Where to eat, where to watch?

Fellow Exiger Le Mans veterans - I am of to the Le Mans Classic with the missus this year, and I was wondering if any of you Le Mans regulars can help me make this event even more special, especially on the subjects of…:-

Where to eat - I don’t want to eat at the circuit, it’ll be much better (and probably no more expensive) to go to a proper french eatery elsewhere. Can you guys (and gals?) recommend anywhere to eat (including Le Mans, Mulsane, Arnage, etc) that is not too formal / expensive, and where they do not mind two idoits that do not speak French?

Where to watch - Where are the best places (and times of the day) to park yourself and watch what is going on? I am staying at the Bleu Nord campsite not far from the pits, so if a long way away, can you drive and park there (in an Exige)?

Any events on? - I know that there is lots of stuff going on for the ‘real’ Le Mans (Le Mans drivers parade, St Saturnin ‘British Welcome’, etc), but is there any thing like this for the Classic worth going to? I’ll be there from Thursday afternoon.

Cheers muchly for your thoughts.

Clive.

Clive,

The options are endless but for an evening meal you could do a lot worse than parking behind the theatre opposite the cathedral in the city centre and then walking up to the left of the cathedral where you will find a selection of decent restaurants,

Arnage is great for car spotting but not so great for restaurants although there are plenty of cafes etc.

As for viewing, depending on the tickets you should be able to watch from any of the spectator enclosures. I would particularly recommend Arnage/Indianapolis and Mulsanne corner now has a huge spectator area as well. You can get to Tetre Rouge etc on foot from where you are camping.

Cal me on 07974 415496 if you want a chat - I can talk faster than I can type!

Clive

Mike is without doubt a “Le Mans Expert” - many of us have learnt a lot from him, whilst at Le Mans over the years :sunglasses:

However, some of things he does after a few “G+Ts”, are best not remembered, eh Mike?
