Well it appears my old Clio Cup that I sold to a friend has had it’s CL5 front pads delaminate, funny thing is it has never even been tracked, I am going to remove them and get them sent back, all very disappointing really
yeah I’d steer clear of the CL pads, doesnt seem to be limited to a batch
PF WTF IMO
This is why I thought I would share here, going to remove them and send them back asking for a refund as they are clearly not fit for purpose.
indeed, road cars and track cars alike seem to be killing them and long history back of them going.
took them out last night, not one of the front pads still had the friction material still bonded to the backing plate, this really is very poor indeed. If it wasn’t for the design of the calipers the friction material would have just fallen out!
christ
Yeah, heard nothing but bad stories when it comes to CL pads
Not entering the debate on pads and what they do and don’t do. But do have to ask why fit CL pads to a car that isn’t used on track?
I’ve been through so many sets of pads in my Leon in its 150k, and a lot of different flavours. All the upgraded ones I’ve tried have had issues of one sort or another, either unbearable squeal, rattle, huge amounts of dust, pick up, backings coming off - although mainly on the rears - life - one set of uber pads were down to the minimum after 3k of interesting commuting - the list is endless. Given up and fitted some cheapo mintex road ones, and they’re 90% as good for road use, with the only downsides being they smell a bit when they get really hot. They even come with the warning wires, so can check things even less on it!!
Yep the same happened to me… In fact I know a few people this has happened to in the past year…I certainly wouldn’t try them again. Although from new they are a brilliant pad… I ink the problem is when they get low in life…
it was due to go on track, but sadly Steve has not had the funds and it has turned into his only car for a little while. Still a poor show though as rattling squeeling and excessive dust would be completely acceptable, falling to pieces is not though
He has been in contact with them and is waiting for a decision…
These pads have a VERY high content of fine steel dust in them , this causes problems with the pads adhering to discs especially when the car is put away wet, or kept in damp conditions, when the material in the pad rusts. The problem goes away as the pads wear in , and stand further off the discs
Podger - you appear to be almost the only one (on here) who perseveres with these pads - everyone else has had problems, & have ditched them in favour of different maufacturers. Caveat Emptor.
Been running CL6s for about 3 years now.Mainly a road car.Do check them regularly never had a problem apart from noise which is a lot less now.Even when they are cold or on an MOT brake test always seem fine.
My mot place just does a basic brake test with an accelerometer in the car…
Bit low for the rollers and lsd aint clever checking one rear brake at a time !
Very interesting, the problem we have just had is not chunks of the pads sticking to the disc and breaking off but the whole friction surface coming off the backing, they have never been rusted to the disc surface, the bonding has just failed
I’ll post a couple of pictures
