Ok I know this isn’t a BHP track day thrill question but my 5 year old wants me to buy a lotus exige / elise and I haven’t the heart to tell him that I cannot find a child seat - any ideas anyone?

From age 2 up to 12, it expands up and out. There’s a bunch of accessorises available too for more comfort and safety at different ends of the age range (eg. big lap cushion, foot rest). The unique thing is that the back doesn’t actually rest against something hard, rather webbing stretched between the aluminium frame. In an accident kid’s backs can often get damaged by being thrown back on to something much harder than a normal car seat (usually dense polystyrene). Head protection is very important for youngsters too, they have much bigger head to neck ratios.

I got mine from these guys - http://www.motorsportworld.co.uk/ - as they were the cheapest at the time but Halfords sometimes do offers. It’s not cheap (circa �200) but it is pretty safe. Although on the safety front, because it uses the standard belt, even with a clamp at the top, the little monkey still occasionally manoeuvres himself out of the strap for a “Where’d he go?!” (Goose from Top Gun) moment when a cool car passes.

We have a Recaro young sport for my wifes car but it will not fit in the Exige. Well it will but only with the hand brake off…with my wife going back to work soon I’m on the look out for a seat for a one year old that will fit the Exige.
