For those of you who like a nice wing, I bolted my new DJ twin element one on yesterday to check for fit etc. It’s a bit of a whopper and the pictures don’t actually give a full sense of scale!! Just got to balance out the front end now. Love it…

Truly splendid
Does it flap about?
Flap about, how very dare you!!!
No it doesn’t actually, as the main supports are 10mm T6 and all four longeron supports are now made from 5mm ally. It’s very, very sturdy with the slightest hint of side-to-side movement. I even sat in the middle of it to make sure.
The plane that took me abroad last year had a smaller wing than that! It’ll need a wheelie bar on the back!
Love it!
Fookin hell mate, how big are those end-plates ?!

Apparently, cushion mounted flappy wings are all the rage
More like a double whopper with extra cheese, extra bacon and make the drink a super size…
Love it!

What mega wing. Your car looks fab. When’s the engine going back in?
Love that - looks awesome!
Cheers for the compliments that have been ‘winging’ their way over to me.
Regarding the engine going back in. Well, it was meant to be going back in this week along with the sequential gearbox. However, due to the company who are making the casings being very slow, it wont be going in for another six weeks ish, which is two weeks before my first event!!! Not the best situation, but we’ll get it done in the end. So basically, I now have to finish everything on the car minus the engine before then. Quite scary as there’s lots to do still.
Lotus limited edition “Spruce Goose” - looks epic, what sort of downforce figs are you loking to generate with that?
Regarding the downforce figures, I’ll be running it at it’s lowest, most efficient angle to start with. This will probably generate about 100kg at 100mph. At it’s maximum angle it will be nearer 175kg at 100mph. Plus there is the added leverage effect from mounting it quite alot further back than normal, which is why I didn’t go for a more aggressive profile.
Combine that with the new diffuser and underfloor which is being improved on, also the new front splitter and I should have a fair bit of downforce to play with. I just hope I can get the car nice and balanced and adjust the dampers to suit.
