Hi!
I discovered that I used what was left of the inner pad on the front left wheel during my last trackday.
And In the process I ruined the brake disc as well …
So I need to renew the brake setup on my 06 Exige.
Is it worth upgrading the size of the brake discs by using something like this?
Also keeping the setup look reasonably OEM as well.
Any issues using the standard wheels with 308mm discs?(it is a federal car)
Or should I save my money using something like this instead?
personally i think if you track your car a lot then there’s worth in getting better brakes, otherwise i imagine cheapo standard disks are gonna be fine for road use and occasional track. It really depends on what you’re using it for cos you could spend loads on brakes if you wanted
I’d go for the RBF600 fluid, cheaper than the rest and easier to work with than silicone based, still never found anyone who has an issue with it, agree to go 308 with 2 pots as well
Sounds like I should upgrade the disc size then
There is no issue with my stock wheels when upgrading the disc size right?
Have any of you seen some pics of 308 discs fitted with 2 piston calipers to an Elise/Exige?
(just want to make sure it does look fairly OEM…)
I´ll have to look into what sort of brake fluid I should be using, I´ve been using fairly cheap stuff and just changing it often…(quality should still be decent)
What sort of pads are you chaps running Carbon Lorraine( rc5+/rc6)? I´ve been fairly happy with the Ferrodo DS2500 I´ve been using so far
Here are some pictures of mine, shown with both my MAK wheels and Cup wheels. These discs are the 308mm AP discs and bells fitted with OEM 2 pot calipers. They’re about £750 though You can get one piece 308mm discs, but they are likely to be heavier and not so good at dissipating the heat?
Thanks Mark, just what I was looking for. It does look quite OEM, and probably more so with solid discs
Wouldn´t mind separate disc and bell except for the price … , so currently these
looks like the most likely candidate, unless I can get them at a better price elsewhere.
What are you going to be using the car for? I’ve got Pagid RS42 in mine, hammer them on track and no problems. If you are going to just use it on track perhaps go for the Pagid RS15? Bottom line if you go with Pagids you can’t go wrong really. Another option that seems quite popular are Performance Friction, no experience myself though.
Remember decent fluid as well, also braided lines whilst you’re at it
Decent fluid is an absolute most here use Motul RBF600, if you are going pagid, then most here avoid the RS14 as it seems to eat discs, for road and sometimes track go RS42 or if you can hand the dust performance friction.
Good tip on the RS14, I didn’t realise that. I was planning on using them next time but don’t think I’mm bother, after all the RS42s seem to be up to the job and I am hard on the brakes
Thanks chaps!
Seems like 308mm disk with rs42s and some proper fluids is my solution, as I don´t do that many trackdays
(although don´t really have that much opportunity for road driving at the moments, kids take up a lot of time…)
