Charity and VSCC events in 2008

Calling the Edwards boys and Pesky!

I’m trying to organise all of my Exige related events in 2008 (re days off etc). I remember talking to you fellas last year about a few events to you did (which Exiges.com members could be invited to), and enjoyed greatly, that you thought might also take place in 2008. One was being invited to the practice day for a VSCC race, with the chance of being on track with some of the VSCC cars. The other was a charity event at Bruntingthorpe or MIRA?

Any news on these, or have I drunk too much forgetful juice and got my wires crossed?

Cheers,

Clive.

Hi Clive

I don’t think the VSCC have finalised their plans for the “see Red” event this year. Perhaps 83man can clarify, if he spots this thread?

Bruntingthorpe - can’t help with that one, sorry.

Hi Guys,

VSCC are at Donington for a two day race meeting 31 May/1 June this year. There is a track day on the Friday but it will be run by Donington rather than by VSCC. There may well be a similar mix of cars in the paddock but it will probably cost a bit more to get on track on the Friday this year…

Alternatively, if you want some VSCC action ooop noooorth we are at Oulton on 14 Jun, i.e. the day after the LOT day on Friday 13 June - no good if you are superstitious I suppose!

If you’ve never seen a VSCC race day it might be worth stopping over to see full grids of lots of power, not much grip and poor brakes in some ‘faster than you might think’ racing. Always a spectacle from the days when racing drivers were completetly mad (and apparently still are!)

See HERE for some typical action. Use the drop down to see other events.

You could just as easy say “faster than it was in it’s day” racing, with all the development & know how in the cars now

It’s certainly great entertainment

Mike

Thanks for your post.

Do I assume there’s no “See Red” this year?

The Donington meeting is SeeRed really, it’s just that it is earlier in the year and M-B aren’t too keen on the SeeRed title…and on the grounds that they are bringing a W154 such as driven by Dick Seaman seventy years ago at Donny in 1938, we need to be nice to them. The W154 will be driven by Tony Dron who did such a great job in the W125 (from 1937) last year.

There’s some truth in that, of course. The tyres are more grippy, the engines and drive train built to tighter tolerances and therefore they are inevitably quicker than when they were new. But you can’t reverse engineer these things. No roll bars, no belts and too much power for the drive train … a recipe for some really entertaining racing where you can see the drivers working hard to keep the cars on course and at speed.

Yep, it’s bloody brilliant to watch, & it’s great to be able to wander around the pits/paddock area, get close to some fantastic cars, & chat with the drivers/mechanics. Can’t recommend it highly enough for a cracking day out

Mike is this the meeting with the group C cars …if so Very Worth Seeing.
How about F 5000…Down under series wes FANTASTIC…25 cars on full chat real competitive racing AWSOME as they say

No Gp C cars at Donington this year I’m afraid (their series is only 4 races in 2008) but we do have the BRDC Historic Sportscars, Equipe GTS pre-65 sports and GT cars, HGPCA etc etc etc as well as all the usual VSCC fayre
