Changing clutch fluid?

About to change the brake fluid tomorrow, so while at it I might as well change the clutch fluid, however I’ve no idea where to bleed the clutch from, can any one tell me how to do this.

Cheers

Open the engine hatch and prop it up…

stand on passenger side looking into engine bay down the side of the block - you will have to push the air filter ducting out of the way.

you should see the clutch slave cylinder (little cylindrical thing with a lever poking into it. Get Diane to depress the clutch pedal while your looking and you will see it moving.

On top of this is a bleed nipple (very same as a brake one) - just connect your bleed hose and container onto this and loosen it off while youve got the eezibleed on … (you have got an eezibleed haven’t you?? !!)

The fluid will be a very dirty browny black colour i bet.

Also it shares the (rear??) half of the fluid reservoir with the rear brake circuit.

easy peasy… good luck

Cheers Rox, will give it a go tomorrow, not sure about letting Di in the drivers seat, last time I did that She managed to spin the car at the hairpin up at KH

Dave

at least she kept it out of the kitty litter… not like some??

Cheers Rox, worked a treat, I was amazed at the colour of the clutch fluid, it was almost black . Also its the last time I take your advice about letting Di into the drivers seat, At one point I had her pumping the brake peddle and I couldn’t understand why the pistons in the rear calliper weren’t moving, anyway after re-briefing Di that the brake peddle was actually the middle peddle, all was fine

Dave

LOL!

How much did it use? What fluid did you use? Would have been expensive with SRF!

Ian

The fluid was Lucas GP600, not quite as expensive as SRF. Used about 1.5L, but also changed to braided hoses, so gave everything a good flush through.

Glad you got rid of the manky clutch circuit fluid ehh…

… the pedal thing… mmm… that might explain the spin at the hairpin give her my regards…

If you chosse to use SRF for the brakes then you would have to use it for the clutch because the clutch shares reservoir with the rear brake circuit - i think its the rear anyway…

That’s interesting, as I don’t remember the garage playing with the clutch bleed nipple when they did the hoses. And SRF comes in 1 litre packs and that’s all they used.

It is possible to change fluid without actually changing the clutch fluid when you change the brake cicuits so they wouldn’t play with the clutch nipple… however… i guess you are wondering… mmmmm… if they didn’t change the clutch fluid… does that mean… they flippin well mixed original clutch fluid with my new SRF in the reservoir…

garages… dontcha djust luvvem…

Pooh!

Although that may have taken more than 1l of SRF - ouch!
