Central Locking Problem

Had a bit of a shock today. Cars been parked up under cover for about 3 months due to the bad and long winter we’ve had. I went to start preperations today to get it back on the road, its currently sorn.

Any way, i hit the unlock button…the car made the noise, the lights flashed but the pins didnt pop up. Instead they just moved up slightly, then stayed down. In the end i had to use an old trick to brake into the car and pull the pins up from the outside. Put the key in, and the car started first turn, so its not the battery is flat. Car hasnt been opend for about 3-4 weeks. Im guesing the frost and cold weather, condensation under the cover maybe has done something to the door locks. Any suggestions or common problems? I thought at first central locking, but when you press the button it does try to open both doors but the pins seem “sticky”.

Any Help is appreciated.

Cheers

Jay

Does it do it to both doors? Suprised if both actuators (solenoids) would stick at the same time.

Yea, both doors do the same thing. They start to move upwards, then pop back down.

When you pull them up by hand, they are touch to move and make a clicking sound.

This happened to mine, if they lock ok (test with window open) but won’t unlock you will need a new central locking solonoid for about 40 from the dealers. Also you might well lose some blood and skin if you fit it yourself.

Is that one solendoid based in the dash…or one for each door? Any info on finding the little git and changing it?

I had the same problem, i would say definately it is the cental locking module. Dont let the garage charge you the earth for taking your dash out e.t.c you do not need to. It took me about half hour to change by going through the right hand air vent.
Hope this helps

Order’d one from bell and Colvill, should be here tuesday. Will fit it myself.

Enjoy the sore fingers after :frowning: also double side tape the new one to the old  trust me so much easier

instead of trying to fit the new board inside the old housing?

I believe the accepted wisdom is just to piggy back one box on top of the other. Fair play if you can swap the boards out!

/you signed up for Seloc day @ Llandow on 7 Aug?

Yes

Makes sense. I shall do just that

I used some double sided velcro tape…just incase it goes again lol!!!

can you tell me how you got in as just got bk from a 4 month deployment and now cant get in mine, so dont want to smash the window
