As I brought the car with a cat replacement on and no cat came with the deal, what are peoples views about the upcoming MOT next year. Will it definitly fail without one. If I have to get one I was thinking about the Hi-flow sports one from Elise-parts. Has anyone got one of these already? Or any other alternatives?
Thanks Rob J
It depends on where you take it to get MOT’d
Legally you will need a cat fitted for an MOT, depending on the tune of the car it stands a better chance of passing on the emissions with the original CAT.
Is anyone else avaliable to help me on this.
Cheers
Basically, without a CAT you WILL fail MOT, there is no way it can pass the test without one.
your choices are:
- Pay Lotus 600 for a new one
- Pay Eliseparts 250 for a new one
- Pay Moto-build 150 for one (alledgidly!)
- Borrow one for the MOT, then give it back
- Bribe the MOT tester.
…or pay 50 for a blank certificate from Dodgy Dave in the Dog and Partridge…
or even buy an original one secondhand - I have a spare one if anyone’s interested…

If they’ve been used don’t they deteriorate due to absorbed moisture? - or can they be protected to prevent this?
