Car recovery from France

As per the thread title, has anyone had a car revovered from France via the AA 5-star Euro system?

Wondered how long and if there were any issues.

My car is currently on the way back afer a very sudden clutch failure in Dijon. (unfortunatly before the Trackday ). 1.4 diesel Fistas are fun in the corners but too slow on the straights at Dijon & Magny Cours .

The AA were crap at letting me know what there were doing and I had to chase them a lot but the actual product (taxi’s car hire etc) is very good.

Concerned I may miss the Donny evening session on the 5th August.

Yup, my Exige broke down in France a couple of years ago. (I was on my way home, fortunately.)

I think it took something like two weeks to get the car back home.
Apparently it’s hard to predict the time of return because they stock the cars up and return them in large batches.

I didn’t really have any problems with it, other than that the car was unbelievably dirty when it got back, and it was difficult explaining to a guy who speaks English about as well a I speak French, that the car should be towed only by the towing eye, and not by the suspension.

I agree they’re very good with sorting hire cars, but it was a bit interesting when it came to the ferry. The french hire company that supplied the car in france insisted the car must not leave the country. The AA insisted I had to take the car onto the ferry, and swap it at the car hire place in England. They would then stick the car on the next ferry back to frogland. A bit odd, but it all worked out OK.

Brendan,

Ian at Nick Whale mentioned your car. I’m just worried about any transportation damage.

I also went through some confusion with Hire cars, just drove the French Fiesta to the UK and swapped at Dover, although Europcar at Dover were apparantly expecting a foot passenger.

…& not a six foot four one

Budum tish!

No there was no damage, just dirt. There was loads of crap inside the headlamp covers for some reason. I think they must store the car under water

Crap - sorry to hear that Mark …

I will be there on the 5th if you want to assist bedding my new brakes in

It’s back! Can’t believe the 10-14 working days turned out to be less than 4!!!
It arrived at Nick Whales this evening at 5:30pm, probably drop over there tomorrow afternoon to make sure it’s as I left it.

Thats impressive - just make sure they dont sell it to anyone

It’ll be fine, he doesn’t want a heavily tracked one, which means mine is VERY safe
