car cover

Anyonw know if there are any all weather car covers that are a good fit for the exige. Just wanting something to keep it safe from the weather over winter but more importantly hidden from prying eyes as cant seem to park anywhere without the local communities finest alcoholic teens taking residence around it.

Specialised Car Covers do a great waterproof breathable one for the S1. Not cheap but good, mine’s lived under one for over a couple of year now.

Yep - I’ve got a Specialised one too. Fits perfectly and has understraps to stop it taking off on windy nights.

Had a look at them, I see lotus do one but I imagine it may get nicked or draw the attention I am trying to avoid if it has a big lotus logo.
saw one on ebay for 35 but I guess you get what you pay for, though I may try it out first.
Are you only meant to put it over the car when its dry?

Another vote for the specialised one - costs a bit more but fits like a glove and makes for a great silhouette on the drive

In theory yes, but a certain no no if the cover isn’t breathable. Even then if it’s not cold the water underneath isn’t going to get hot enough to evaporate.

Looking at getting a proper bespoke cover for a different vehicle that sits out on the drive permanently. Use a plastic tarp at present and its just not up to the job.

Was going to ring Specialised and see if they will make one up, not expecting it to be cheap so therefore - and here’s my questions:

  • How have people got on using them?
  • Are they really waterproof (only considering the full monty outdoor version)?
  • How long are they lasting?

Thanks

  • How have people got on using them?

Well I have one and I know Ian has one, plus lots more I am sure. I think it is a quality well-made product.

  • Are they really waterproof (only considering the full monty outdoor version)?

Yes it is but I think it does deteriorate over time. They alao get grubby so you put it on a clean car and dust sort of deposits on the car when you take it off if it has rained.

  • How long are they lasting?

Well I have had mine 3years - it could do with a wash and cats have scratched bits of it to buggery but it looks like it has plenty of life in it. Mice ate Ian’s though

Little…

Personally I’d say it lasts about three years with normal use before it leaks a bit (generally, not the friggin vermin ventilation). But that’s not a real problem, as it’s not like the car isn’t waterproof. For some reason, it does mean the car seems to get really dusty under the cover.

Top quality fit though.

Ian

Thanks chaps - you have answered my questions. I’ll email them tonight and hopefully speak to them tomorrow.

Notice that they are actually based in my part of the world, so it would be good to keep the spending local

That answers a question for me! I have a Classic Additions Car Cover on my FRP. I get the dust when I take it off too, I thought it was faulty, but just a thing of breathable covers I guess! I use a Nenette Polisher when I take it off!

Steve - might be worth waiting till the Classic Motor Show to speak to specialised, you might get a ‘show price’. A friend of mine bought an indoor cover for his FRP last year at the show and got it cheap. I’m going to speak to them about a cover for our Exige, hopefully they will do a discount
