Cams

Hi all, I am trying to find out what cams would be best to fit to try and obtain 220ish from a 1.8K, the engine spec is steel crank, forged pistons, steel con rods, also engine is currentky dry sumped. The plan will be to use Emarld ecu as this is the one I am most comfortable with. Engine is to be used solely on track. Currently fiited to ex MGTF Cup car, soon to be fitted into Exige.

Appreciate peoples thoughts.

Hi,

For 220bhp the Piper 1444 are a good bet if you’re using solid lifters and give a very good torque curve too. See Piper catalogue page 31

I have heard of people getting that sort of output using hydraulic lifters and the 270/285 cams which would give you a far more maintenance free valvetrain.

Dave Andrews roams this forum from time to time and it’s well worth getting his advice if possible, he’s done a lot of work and supplied a lot of parts for me and I can’t speak highly enough of him.

It is possible to get 220 from BP285H cams but only by stomping on the mid range torque, but a better prospect would be to use 1444 cams as recommended, bear in mind thtat you can’t just bolt them in, you will need Piper VDSK double springs, mods to the VHPD spring caps or Piper SC3 caps, solid lifters and you will need to modify the follower bore tops and bottoms to ensure clearance for cam lobes and followers. You may also need to increase the pocket size on your pistons.

Best timing for these is .145 LATDC inlet, .125 LATDC exhaust.

Cheers Guys, I hear an awful lot of bad press regarding K engine, however I like it, nice and light, I believe it already has solid lifters, Janspeed built the engines. What would your recommendation be for manifold, 4 into 1 or 4 into 2 into 1? alos what size primaries should I be aimomg for? Will the standard Exige throttle bodies be up to the job?

The other option is to mate a duractec to existing gearbox, Quaife straight cut close ratio with quaife LSD. Appreciate your thoughts. Thanks in advance

Hi

If you want to have 220 hp, but with a good torque from the low of the revs, you make your engine in 1.9 or 2.0k.
