Well according to Steve at CN’s thats it, you can no longer place an order for a new Exige, all you can buy now is the Rodger Becker special edition
Last week they had to turn away someone wanting to place an order for a new 211 as all the cars they will be building are now in build.
So it looks like thats it, unless you want the new elise 1.6 all of the elise/exige and 211’s are dead
Does that make all our existing cars more valuable ???
Or even classic’s !!!
Deadline for last orders was 27th August - I nearly ordered a 2-11 but was put off by the lack of practicality and the negative comments on here !!!
Lots of talk of a bigger V6 Exige floating around or smaller 1.6 engined Elise etc
Still happy with my eventual choice though
Total conjecture by me…
Lotus sell Elise/Exige/211 rights to Caterham (as happened with the “7”) - everyone’s a winner Okay, would probably end up using Duratec, but no problem there imho.
Great for Caterham as they then have an “acceptable” additional/proven product, they could develop European/USA markets, in a “sensible price bracket”. Great for Lotus - frees them up to follow their chosen 5 year plan to develop their “aspirational up market models”, without existing customers feeling completely kicked in the nuts.
Yep, I am sober whilst writing this!

Methinks you are drunk on gravy
I thought they’d said they were not abandoning the small cars? And surely they didn’t mean that silly City car (required to bring down their average emissions)

If you read this link to Evo
The Elise RGB costs 38,550, and the Exige 41,950. These cars will also be the swansong for the 1.8-litre Toyota unit which no longer meets the Euro 5 type approval regulations.
The engine will still be produced for markets outside of Europe.
So really the Exige does not have a suitable motor …
unless you can count the V6
I’ve been told in good authority that a V6 engined Exige test mule does exist at Hethel as per the spy shots on the net but it is not going ahead as a production vehicle. The person who told me works for Lotus and has sworn me to secrecy so dont tell anyone else (!)
He wouldnt tell me a thing about whether or not they’ll be an Exige replacement though…
There have been murmurs through the dealer network of a V6 Exige, so that seems to be at odds with the statement above. If it doesn’t happen it will just leave the field more open for aftermarket conversions such as the MWR V6.
Surely the V6 would just be too heavy for the Exige anyway?
I was told the other day it will not happen sadly, the exige test mule was testing the evora engine I believe.
If that was the SC V6, then that would be one fast (in a straight line!) Exige.
There has to be an Exige replacement. They’d be crazy to offer only the 1.6 Elise as the only car of that class in their lineup.
In these tough economic times, it’s easier to sell Elises and Exiges than it is to sell Esprits costing over 100k!!
This is also what i was told.
