Buying tips/gotcha's for Exige S2 'S' please!

Mmmmm,

I am approaching the REAL dark side!

Looked at the Laser Blue Exige S today… very nice car indeed! Being of an S1 disposition… may I ask for some wise words about things to look for/problems/weaknesses in the Exige S please?

Car drove very nicely… nothing obvious at all wrong! Liked the power too!

Cheers guys,

Pete.

Pete, as discussed, been there and done that. What to look out for from my experience;

Some late 57 Ss had an issue with 3rd gear synchro. I had a new gear box at 1000 miles and a factory rebuild before the warranty was up - still was not right when I sold it.

Colour - in the eye of the beholder and all that

Signs of track day abuse

Positives are approx 2k gets you 260bhp and if youre that way inclined, you can have that sun on your bonce experience within minutes.

Congrats on getting the bosses rubber stamp by the way and cant wait to see what you go for.

Harvey.

A couple of things depending on the age are toe links, air con (check 1-4 settings for coldness) and as as Harvey just stated gearbox, mine is an 06 eg S and I had my box rebuilt at about 12months old under warranty.
Another thing to check is the steering rack, if your turn the wheel when stationary check for any small noises/clicks throgh the wheel. Its not always a rack but but quite often can be a big expense.(sometimes just a loose bolt under the coloumn).

And dont forget the obvious as A048’ / disks and pads are easily overlooked.

A few thing as stated

3rd gear syncro
inner toe links
clonking rack
AC
central locking work ok, has it had a new relay yet?
Fan resistor been changed?
Cracked discs

other than those are not too bad

Make sure the hairdryer works…for the missus’s benefit of course.

And to guarantee added performance (per Ade), make sure there’s an extra slot to plug the rollers in.

Extra plug is only required if your your G/F like mine like to use rollers in her hair

Yep and don’t forget to chek for man monk stains on the passenger seat, a sure sign its an uber ghay elise coupe.
