Busy weekend fitting intercooler

Seeing as everyone else seems to be building/re-building their cars, I thought I’d better get my finger out and get the intercooler I bought 4 months ago fitted!

Despite a few issues with the instructions I was following (I’ll let ProAlloy know), I’m well pleased with the end result  . Does anyone else that has fitted the side air intake kit feel that the offside pipe is excessively long? I think I’m going to reduce its length to match that of the nearside.

Hi Bomber
Looking good, I too needed to shorten one of the hoses a little bit.
I think your intercooler is shorter than mine the bolt holes look different to me, that might be why your instuctions did’nt work properly. Have a look at my photo and see what you think.

I would cut the pipe so the radius of the bend is not as sharp so as to give better airflow.

Cheers Pete, your picture answers many questions

I believe I’ve actually got an earlier version than yours, maybe a prototype, as it had had some use, and required a bit of ‘fettling’ before I could install. The instructions however would seem to be for later models like yours, as it states to fit the rubber mounts to the outer holes (which I did), but when offering the IC up, I found that I actually needed to use the inner holes. Some minor disassembly followed!

I note the air sensor block is rotated 90 degrees on yours, and subsequently doesn’t foul the offside super charger pipe like you’ll see on mine.

Both of those were items I was intending to make ProAlloy aware of, but won’t now.

I will be shortening the offside pipe though as it has two unnecessarily tight direction changes.

Hi Pete
I am glad that I was able to help you by posting up the photo, it just puts your mind at ease knowing that you have fitted things correctly.
Did you find the old intercooler coated with much oil inside ?

Some residual oil in the tubes, but none in the intercooler itself. That just contained a nice collection of dry leaves and bug remains. :open_mouth:

A bit of oil in the pipes isnt an issue, if you are still using the standard breather setup.
