so my clutch, which had been threatening to withdraw cooperation for a very long time, finally packed it in towards the end of a track day on saturday.
car is an s2 220s with CN 260, 2bular box and k&n among other bits and pieces. road and track use.
what is the wisdom regarding a replacement?
i kind of like the logic of having the weakest part of the drive train also the cheapest so don’t want to over-spec a replacement to the point where something more expensive breaks next time.
i see that eliseparts have an uprated (vs. ‘race’) exedy unit for not much more than OEM. anyone tried it?
anyone gone with the light weight flywheel and does it make much difference ?
i want to keep the car very road usable but if it makes sense to upgrade a couple of related bits while the clutch is out then i’m interested. gearbox will get a check and maybe a bit of refreshing at the same time.
thanks for the suggestions. turns out it was the pressure plate that broke - the clutch plate itself is fine but i guess a full assembly is required. i’m not too upset about it since it’s over 90,000km old and has done a trackday or two in between accommodating the occasional ride
based on this, if an OEM can be sourced for cheap i’ll probably go same again, else i may give one of these exedy things a go.
My car is a 2010 car with 260 BHPish and has done 6700 miles. It has just had a clutch replaced under warranty because of the pressure plate mountings failing… there is a discussing going on about on PH - see exige stuck in gear…
@ chrisexigegt & gizmo75: as far as i can gather, OEM fitment to S240 and higher is AP Racing. and it’s plenty expensive - about twice the price of the exedy that i wound up going for. i hadn’t noticed the PH thread, i’ll go look at it now. got a very decent offer of an OEM toyota for cheap but with all the other stuff i decided to do the discount became negligible and longevity/performance the priority.
the exedy does bite more abruptly than the original but now it’s been run in by a day on track, it’s just fine and actually it suits the car quite nicely.
other stuff done:
powerflex engine mounts.
gearbox check - all pretty much ok.
harness bar (spyder) and harnesses (eliseparts).
other than tyres, that’s all i hope to buy this year.
