Hi, has anyone fitted the Brown and Geeson Quick Release Kit with the replacement steering column boss On an S2? Maybe I’m being a bit slow, but I can’t work out how to wire up the horn.
I removed the old wheel, one of the connections goes onto the metal body of the oe steering wheel, the other goes through the back of the oe wheel and into the column. I’m guessing this is the positive connection?
So I’ve taken the old wheel off (that was fun)
Removed the plastic/metal 2 pronged tab on the back and fitted this to the new boss, fed the wire through and plugged this into the positive terminal on the Brown and Geeson removable hub (which at this point is split to enable install.)
bolted the B&G Hub onto the new boss
offered up and clipped into place the other half of the B&G hub
Test fitted the new momo wheel (just with 2 bolts as I knew it was coming back off!) and installed the new momo horn push with a wire from the postive on the front of the B&G Hub onto the pos of the horn push.
when I reconnect the battery, the horn is on constantly, so Ive not wired it correctly, but I kind of knew that was going to happen as I’ve only effectively wired the positive I think and not a negative. but have no feckin idea what I’m doing.
From your comments I’m assuming that your car is a pre airbag car?
If that’s the case I think the most likely thing is that when you fastened the back plate of the removable part to the new boss the end of the steering column is shorting on the positive connection inside it… also assuming you had the battery disconnected at this point so you didn’t realise you had a problem until you had finished?
Try leaving the install without the wheel on & connecting the battery if the horn still sounds then this is the case!
It appears that the steering column is a little longer on the pre airbag cars & so requires some careful “fiddling” with the connections when fitting the back plate in order to avoid this,
Keep at it though it is possible I’ve done it on a couple of cars…
yes its a 2007 car so fitted with the non airbag oe wheel, and I had the battery disconnected whilst working on it. To be honest when I assembled everything, I knew that I might have to take it all off again, so I only loosely fitted everything with that in mind, so its not an issue to go back to the start.
I spoke to Dave at Seriously Lotus this morning and he mentioned that there is an earthing point on the new boss, which I didn’t see, so I’ll try and connect onto that tonight and see if that makes any difference.
