bringing a 255 cup back to life

friend of mine had the engine let go during a race last year. the car’s been sitting under a cover until the last few days and suddenly it’s time to get it going again. very initial check says zero pressure in cylinder 3 but the others are ok. not known at this stage whether there is head damage due to possibly broken piston. owner thinking of a rebuild, and bigger power: 300+ to run in local GT series.

suggestions as to :

  • rebuild: pistons, s/c setup, map, etc.
  • drivetrain especially gearbox: seems a quaife sequential is not as expensive as it used to be.

can you get a Quaffe sequential for the Yota? How much ?

Thanks

apparently yes, and it’s 6k which is a lot less than i thought.

A short list for the moment.

Darton Steel liners
Mahle or Wiseco pistons
Circuitworx oil pump
Crower rods
Decent valve springs

this would be a good start, if you are keeping with the MP62 SC don’t use too lower compression pistons  with a 2.6" pulley and a decent charge cooler you should see 350hp+

thanks for the info - I’ll pass it along. around 350bhp would be ideal to be competitive in that class.

actually, i’ll see if i can get him to sign up here himself so i don’t wind up batting info over and back.

update :

looks like the head is actually ok but bottom end thrashed - presumably due to flailing conrod and bits of piston.

now thinking of boring out, going with oversized pistons.

Wisdom seems to be that there isn’t enough material between the bore to go oversize. You might be able to machine and sleeve to standard size. Working through options for a build myself so interested in what you decide to do.
