break pads - how long do they last @your car? (S1)

hi everyone

I have a question: How long do break pads last @your car? (Exige S1)

I did only a short track use (few laps) so far, did 10000km since February (break pads were replaced then), and they are rubbish already (stuttering, except when braking hard). I’m not in the mood for replacing the pads every 10000km…

any ideas?

Thanks

what pads are you using ?

what pads are you using ?

standard quality - tried ferro, but they were squeaking like a breaking freight train, so had them replaced by ‘lotus original’ (what ever that is…)

Change the car for a VW Golf ?

Stuttering probably isn’t due to the pads wearing out, it’s more likely a build up of pad material on your discs. Sometime light road use is worse for your brakes. Try a few hard stops from a reasonable speed (somewhere safe) and you might find that it’ll scrub your discs clean and the stuttering will stop (for a while).

Take a look at your pads, see how much material is left on them, you can wear them down to a couple of mm and they should work fine.

Generally good pads squeal, you just have to put up with it. Plenty of copper grease can help sometimes though, and make sure you have any anti squeal shims fitted -correctly.

Some pads disc combinations are better than others. Generally different combinations suit different uses and people. I find DS2500 pads with EBC groved discs work very well but some people will tell you EBC discs are cheap rubbish (like their terrible pads).

About 25 hours of track use …

I’d rather take the bus

pads look ok so far - ok, will try a few hard stops, thanks for the hint. Maybe I’ll buy another brand next time - if I experience the same problem, it’s my driving style I guess

ok, don’t have that experience yet
