Brakes Fading

So we had a great day at Donnie on the 27th, the first full day on track with my Pagids RS14s in & they sure made a difference.

But on the third or fourth time on the track they started fading very quickly and continued to do so throughout the day. When they’d really cooled down the following day they were fine again.

I’m guessing that this is the brake fluid and I need to get it changed to something a little tougher.

Sound right to you or are there any other views?

What’s the best brake fluid to use?

Cheers

SRF.

Yeah IMO SRF is the way forward, never had a problem with it.

SRF gets good write ups from searching t’internet, but it’s a good price as well…

I can’t see how many litres I’ll need for the Exige though - can you help?

Did I really write that oh fook

Bloody Hell, Jonny you are gonna give me a bad name!!!

On the SRF front, 2 litres will be more than enough and will leave a bit for topping up.

Sound, thanks guys.

I use AP 600 in the Lotus 22 and have never had brake fade. This is very hydroscopic so I have to change the fluid every 3 months.

May be worth checking how hydroscopic SRF is, if it is high then not changing it can cause corrosion of the brake pistons.

SRF is pretty hydroscopic. I have to say though I have never had any corrosion problems and I change my fluid every couple of years. My brakes do get bled probably every six months, but only to check no air has found its way to the top of the callipers.

I use RBF 600 instead of srf as it is not so hydroscopic but have very similar temp ratings, never had an issue with it either

Does it work in gearboxes too?
