Brakes... Again!

Whats the latest on the best standard brake disc and pad set up guys?

My brakes are mega with 295/282 AP disks, 4pots on the front and bias-valve. With Performance Friction pads,…ooof it really stopped :sunglasses: I now run RS42 as the PF pads have the clag issue when you run them in the wet.

Hi Ben

I’m sticking to standard set up mate, did enjoy that quick go in yours all those years ago.

I’ve still got the video somewhere, "shit what gear am I in?’ :laughing:

I still haven’t seen that. Your car just made me want to push it but I guess the contract was “If you bin it, you buy it”. Yep, the brakes were very good!

What about the RS16 pads Ben?

I’ve never tried them. I’ve tried :

RS14 = pad transfer
PF = awesome but dust/clag

Currently running RS42 which seem fine on the road but I’ve never used them on circuit.

Sorry mate, I just invented the 16’s. I ment the 14’s. It’s hard to know what to try.

I do not drive as fast as Benja but I have used Rs42 on road and track with no problems with squeals or excess dust. I can’t compare them with anything other than oem Brembo pads and they are an improvemet.

I have the EP alloy bell std size disks and CL5+ pads. These were great on my Elise but Im cooking them and getting workable but dulled performance. I think with the extra power (180 compared to the mighty 118) , wheel size and semi slicks it’s putting more energy into them. Going to move up to a set of CL6 in an attempt to compensate.

That’s good info, I had EBC Turbo Groove with Pagid RS14’s and Castro SRX brake fluid and never had a problem. Either I’m slow or the disc’s with a crap name are actually quite good.

I use those EBC discs on the rear of mine. Definitely rate them over standard and cheap. Run with PF pads
