Brake discs

Anyone had any experience of Eliseparts Aluminium belled brake discs? Any issues with vibration or wear?

I’m trying to decide which discs to buy for my S2. I’m going to fit some PF pads so I will go for new discs at the same time. My previous S1 had a nice set of AP alloy bell discs but I can’t run to a set at the minute, too many other bits to buy over winter.

I run a set on the rear of my s2 they seem ok, but the vanes are all right handed so one side cuts in to the disc and the other cuts away

Wes, they’ll be fine, but iirc Eliseparts bells use 10 bolts to affix the rotors, whereas the norm is 12, & the latter may be better later on if you want to use “big” rotors.

I’m sure that Sean/John will be able to offer advice on the above.

I had the EP Ally Bells on all 4 corners… only until the end of one track day at Donny, after which the fronts were warped and gave very bad vibration from there after.

Elise Parts were VERY good about dealing with the problem, and gave me a discount against a set of AP rotors the replace the EP ones for the front. Needless to say the AP bells were excellent!

The advice seems to be that if you are driving much more than 190 bhp and getting up towards 120-130 mph at the end of those long straights, heavy braking (I had Pagid 42’s) seems to exceed the capability of the EP on the front. To be fair, Elise Parts do say words to this effect about their Ally Bells.

If I were to do it again, I would always now save up and then buy the premium product that will do the job first time! Yes the AP are bloody exensive!!!

I left the EP bells on the rear and they were fine… though got quite blue when hot.

Hope this answers things for you!

Cheers. Pete.

Thanks for your comments guys. I think I’ll stay with a set of grooved one piece discs for now and look at some AP’s next time. At least I can run the car in various production classes if I keep the one piece discs.

There is a body of opinion that says the best route to go is stay with OE ones and change them as necessary…OR if you must change something dont bother about uprating the rears as they only do 25% or less of the brakeing…Here speaks one who has AP295 front and EP ali bells rear .but question now if it was really necessary.
Pads seem to be very personal as some swear on Pagids Some swear AT them!!
I’ve changed to PF after severe vibration with RS14s.
Be prepared to try several combinations to arrive at the best for you.

After looking at different options I’ve ordered some Tarox drilled and grooved one piece discs. Those guys have a reasonable reputation. I’m wary of some of the cheaper pig iron discs on offer. Hopefully these should be a good alternative to forking out for some AP’s. They were 230 for a pair.

It says 2 weeks delivery but they’re Italian so add another 4 to that :sunglasses:

For the pads I decided on a set PF 01’s for the front and PF 97’s for the rear. Let’s see how it compares to the standard setup.

Look nice! VERY popular in OZ for the big V8’s… so obviously will stop you!

If you could put a quick review up when you get these fitted taht would be much appreciated! Considering getting the AP discs, but rather pricey. I also looked at the EP alloy belled jobs, though they recommend the AP discs if you have over 190bhp, so figured it was prob worth giving them a miss.

AP’s are very pricey, my 308mm drilled ones cracked as well with hard track use so I would suggest grooved only

Yeah deffo dont get drilled disks.

The EP ally belled disks aren’t great and they actually weigh more than a standard disk (mine did as I weighed them). The disks are very thick with the vented groove being quite thin.

AP groved disks are very good as are Alcon and Performance friction.
