Having read loads of threads re alternative discs and being thoroughly confused what replacement discs should I go for front and rear. 295 AP; 290AP ; EP ali Bells ;EBC etc
Car is STD 190 K used for a lot track days and a few sunny pub runs.
The std discs are cracked to hell and I need a new set for SPA> Help.
I use AP 295’s on ally bells on the front and rear and they are great.
Same here use the AP disks with the Elisetuning(from eliseparts)front bigger calipers great setup.
ap 295 Fronts, 290 Rear Clive seems to do the job espeically with Rs14, braided hoses and SRF fluid.
here is the problem

Clive, I have my old Exige discs in my shed if you need them as a temp solution for Spa ?
Thanks for the offer Dave,AP’s on the way from EP as I write.
Have fun
My front 4 pot AP’s just started making one hell of a squealing noise today after Donny and there’s bags of pad left…every bloody time I brake, sounds bloody hidious
For that matter how do you know anyway when you need new discs (front or rear)…I know that big crack tells a tale ???
Jonny
It’ll be the pads (not the discs) squealing. Take the car out, & apply the brakes hard from speed a few times - that should alleviate the problem. You need to get rid of the pad deposit on the discs, which tends to accumulate on a trackday, & which, strangely enough, also happens with sustained light braking, when using “competition pads” on the road.
You’ll need new discs when they are getting “thin” - watch out for a pronounced lip on the outer edges. Suggest you monitor the wear by comparing the thickness from new.
You can also remove the pads and re-fit them with a smear of anti squeal grease on the back of the pads .
Mmm have quite a lip already every corner will try the brakes tommorrow and rather than grease tho will probably get new pads and discs all round as the Volks arrive next month. Can you just go out replace the lot at once or are your better doing front then back (either or).
Clive, thought your car looked great mate btw, my fave Exige of the day last week (all due respect to everyone else ).
Hi johnny …
no probs doing all at once … just a thought tho…with new discs and pads the pistons will be right in on the calipers… Not a problem but be prepared for some brake fluid overspilling from the resevoir !
Probably a good excuse to change to racing fluid at the same time.
JK
Been out half the day giving it large…still squealing! Will change fluid as well
