braided hoses

I am having my front grills replaced under warranty and supposidely its a clam off job, is it worth me upgrading to braided hoses? i do a reasonable amount of track work, plan to do alot more, but have never experienced any problems with my pagid 42s, your thoughts please? thanks in advance.

DEFFO WORHT DOING… IF YOU HAVE CLAM OFF IT SHOULD BE PRETTY EASY ??

sorry just noticed - CBA fixing it, won’t shout next time

I’d have thought the S2 servo would mask any improvement. It only makes them feel better after all…

Sorry, not correct. “Normal” hoses can expand with heavy use (ie on track), thus “pedal to the floor, but no brakes” syndrome

It’s a no-brainer to fit braided hoses whilst the clam is off

PS The less said about the standard S2 brake pedal/feel, the better!

That was kinda my point… Teh servo would mask the rock-hard feeling they give.

Never honestly heard of an Elise/Exige expanding the hoses enough to give you a pedal on the bulkhead moment - surely they would burst.

Running on old brake fluid and boiling it is another matter, but not related to hoses…

FWIW, I’ve got braided hoses on my S1 and can still boil old fluid & get the pedal to the floor (that is, when I didn’t change the fluid religiously)

Boiling/old fluid does of course give that effect, as can non braided hoses.

Braided hoses - are braided with an outer layer stainless steel to prevent them expanding/bursting - that’s the whole point of them

I’d have never thought of them expanding enough for a long pedal - just for them to feel a little mushy compared to cold.

Plus - I’ve seen Ed drive

Still, he’s not short of a few bob, I suppose as you say, while the clam’s off, it’s another box ticked.

Who are you trying to kid, you whippersnapper!

Ed go for it

I had the brake pedal on my S2 go straight to the floor last weekend at the end of the long straight at Ty Croes and I have braided hoses, SRF and RS14’s.
It was bloody hot though and I was driving like a Tw@t!

How long has the SRF been in there? It’ll sook up water worse than regular Dot 5.1…

have ordered them from elise parts, cheers for the advice.

does anyone know, roughly how long it takes to change over the hoses once the clam is off, dont want to pay over the odds for labour cheers

I am guessing you have to bleed the system etc got to be a couple

The probelm i had when i did mine, was that once the clam is removed, the drivers side inboard attachment of the hose is right below the abs control unit, so i would imagine you need a special spanner or to disconnect alot of the pipes into it. As i was rushing, thats why i only have three hoses on!

I don’t know anything about S2’s. But I would say the physical act of changing the 4 hoses and bleeding the system should be no more than 1 hours labour.

As mentioned above if stuff like ABS modules have to be moved out of the way first then that is all gonna add to the bill

cheers for that, i can now mkae sure they cant fleece me for too much cash.
