Boot solution?

I’m off on a bit of a road trip later in the year and wanted to use the boot in the exige. It’s a shelf with a 4" high divider at the moment which doesn’t seem to offer much protection to stop your luggage ending up in the engine bay.

Has anyone got any pics of a good solution? I was thinking about fitting some netting?

Cheers,

Si

LotusPower (Martin and Steve Edwards) fit a taller divider, replacing the short standard one.

I used some aluminium cases that fitted into the space between the longerons and then 3 or 4 soft bags on top filling in the space. The taller divider stops the bags flying aorund.

Ah yes but the taller devider is only any good on the honda conversion as with the VHPD the big airbox get in the way. The best way we found with the VHPD was to get a large sheet of thick polythene sheet and put it into the boot space to make a bag, put your bags/luggage into the bag and then fold the sheet over the top of your luggage and tape it down, dry, clean, dust free and no chance of anything falling out where it’s not supposed to.

Steve.

As Steve says… or put your luggage in a sports bag which will fit nicely in the passenger footwell

Oops, there are still Exiges with VHPD,s around ?

Ha Ha  yes there are …and the “boot” gets very hot on long trips …dont put anything in there that will melt as it will find its way into all her best designer Clothes!! :astonished:

…and rather smelly I’d guess too ??

Buy an S2

LOL!!!

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Think I’ll try and source some netting or I’ll go with Steve’s suggestion.

Oh and yes there are some original cars left and I don’t fancy another S2. I sold mine to get a proper one!

Mine’s been to France and back twice, even with the VHPD

No probs with suitable canvas bags - but confess the brie was a little ripe once we landed back in blighty

…and mine’s been to France many times with a VHPD.

The answer is to place an empty bag (or two or three) in the boot space and THEN fill them up in situ. The big bags cannot move and everything can be properly secured. Put items like tents and sleeping bage up behind the light clusters first…

A week’s camping, two up, summer clothing, is easily possible if you plan it properly.

I’ve heard very few stories of anything falling into the engine although I know there have been one or two instances - probably avoidable with a bit more care when packing/loading.

Black bin bags encasing soft luggage is my solution.
One of my first trips out in the Exige with Mrs Thommo was a weekend miles from nowhere involving a trip across open moorland with fog and a steady drizzle. I think decanting luggage from black bin bags rather took the edge off the outing for Mrs T . . .

Also ventured to France two-up for Classic Le Mans (K. Series)

It’s quite funny how we rationalise what we need to pack in a car and how much space we need.

I’m stuck in Bangalore this week with work and I wish I had a camera. Todays highlights include a family of 6 on a moped and two men and a live goat on a Suzuki (quite normal in Bolton I hear - just without the Suzuki).

Makes an S1 boot appear cavernous and distinctly fresher smelling

PMSL @ Wes.

I went to the local camping shop and bought a waterproof rucksack cover bag that fits the space quite nicely, and then bought a couple of rucksack liners - like sleepingbag stuff bags but waterproof, and stuck them inside the first bag once it was already in the boot - total cost was about 15 and it works great!

Alex,

That sounds good - have you got a link?

Where have you persuaded Mrs Alex to go to - anywhere nice?

Clive.

Don’t forget that there’s also some room in the front, between the wheelarch liners and the back of the headlights.

Lightweight stuff in plastic bags is good in there (but don’t but your dirty grots in there and forget about them - in a few months time, when you finally find the bag, it’ll be ripe with loads of festering goodies! )

The best boot for an exige is the Royal Mail. Simply post your pants on to your final destination!!

Hi Clive

I got 2 of these, XL for me and XXL for Marion!

as the bags that we take into where we’re staying and that go inside the below bag once it is in the car

I got one of these as the bag that stays in the boot

I got these to take to Anglesey and they worked well

Hope that helps

Alex
