Boiled the brakes at Blyton?

Did my first track session yesterday at Blyton Park with Car Limits (4 person day). Great day learned loads (and will probably forget most). On my last few laps (with just me on track  ) things started to hook up well unitl I realised that I had lost my brakes. :astonished: The pedal just went flat to the floor, so I pumped it and got a little bite, but at the next corner nothing again. Back to the pits and left to cool off until the drive home and all was fine.

Did I boil the fluid and if so does it need replacing immediately?

Thanks.

Certainly sounds like you’ve boiled the fluid. Replacement is advisory before you think about getting it hot again. But as you said, the drive home was ok so you’re not in immediate danger.

Yep - sounds like boiled fluid… replace it (or at the very least bleed some through) before going on track again…

Lots of choice…I’ve been using RBF600 which has been ok… no need to get the stupidly expensive SRF in my opinion…

Thanks for the help. It was my first track experience (done loads of airfield things) but having a smooth surface is addictive.

Looks like I’ll need a bulk order of fluid or learn to brake less.

^^^ What he said ^^^

No need to get a bulk order in…just get some decent stuff in there and try and be ‘on and off’ with the brakes…don’t ‘ride’ them…

Brake short and hard, not long and soft…

Yet to find anywhere cheaper than this for SRF in the UK:-

Nielsen CDG Clicky

Opie have got a sale on it at the moment too:-

RBF 600 for me as well, SRF is expensive in comparison and from what I have seen on a track car no better.

How much do you need to flush the system and replace?

I’ve used this:

slightly cheaper but it boiled at Brands on about it’s 5th track day. I think i would go with the Motul 600 next time but the rule is that you have to bleed some through regularly if used on track.
I think I recently bought 3 litres and it all went on the Elan and Exige, ie 2 systems fully flushed. If you are going to do stuff at home regularly just order more than you need to save the postage

does everyone use a pressure bleeder?

I use the sealey one, works on the exige, disaster on the Elan

I just gravity bleed mine, it takes a bit of time but also is very reliable.

I use John and Wayne, there is often lots of pressure going on between the two of them. hahaha
