What are all the small improvements I should be making to my S1 Exige during a winter strip down such as: remote thermostat, plastic coating all steel bits and pieces, all alloy rad…
Anything else worth doing while I am in pieces?
thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Touching wood here… but the S1 Exige seems a totally reliable car if looked after well both from a mechanical sympathy point of view and regular maintenance!
Warm it up well… ie: as well as the water, get the OIL up to temp before thrapping it and also cool down gently and HGF will not be an issue! Change the oil every few thousand miles, track days being another factor in that, and really all should be well!
I have had the S1 for 2 years with no probs at all and I know there are many others here with similar experiences! I really do feel that the ‘reliability’ things was a talk up by the press following some early ‘high profile’ issues, but the reality of owning the car is a different and much better story… NO need to go for a Honda! (though they are GREAT and bloody quick… especially in SC form
I guess it is like any woman… look after her and she will look after you!!! (aside from the headaches!)
There’s a lot of truth in what you say Pete.
However, with regular track use (say >5 per year), you’re going to be lucky not to need an engine “refresh”, if you go beyond 30K miles. I would imagine that running with an Emerald ECU, & verniers will greatly improve the situation, as the Lotus ECU/mapping is pretty poor.
Fingers crossed for all of us, whatever powerplants we have chosen!

I know Mr Artis has seen my thread on SELOC… but I’m going through this at the moment (as is CIN over in Asia with his S1 at the moment)… it’s a good chance to have a really good clean-out restoration blast on the car… mine’s going to look like new under the skin come chrimbo… should have a nice fresh VHPD in the back as well all going well.
