Bit of track fun on the weekend...

Had a great day on track with SEXIGE on Sunday and thought I’d share. The car is going great now and ran trouble-free all day

This was the first session of the day, and was a bit caught out with the extra grip from my fresh Toyos on the first corner and ran a bit wide onto the grass, but was a pretty good session:

The third session of the day was brilliant fun, I got to have a bit of a play with a freshly built V8 Supertourer (NZ’s version of the Aussie V8 Supercars). These things are normally a good deal quicker than me, but this one was having its first shakedown run and I was just about to keep up for a lap or three. It was also my personal best laptime at Hampton Downs, lapping in the high 1:13s bracket, which is pretty nippy.

I love my car

love those new TMRs…

George, it’s looking really good, and I’m happy that you’ve got it out and about. It’s looking pretty good, especially with the TMR’s! What tyres are you running??

Cheers,
Kurt

PS Can’t wait to get back to Blighty because mine is booked into Emerald for a RR set up for its new Jenvey’s!

Thanks Kurt. It’s running 888s, replacing some old, hard 048s, that are now for road duty only

Looking good matey

Looks and sounds fantastic George!

Well, two weekends and two trackdays. Car ran almost faultlessly again and went even quicker, despite running more fuel and a less-grippy track.

This is from the second run of the day (first being a warm-up):

And this one is the third, where my third flying lap was a new best lap for me around Hampton Downs:

This session was cut short by a high oil temperature warning, that made me s**t myself. However, subsequent sessions showed it to be nothing more than a dying temp sensor, which is on the cards to be replaced.

She’s quick! I don’t actually know of any road-legal cars lapping the circuit quicker than me now, although I’m sure there are one or two. There certainly aren’t many though and with the car getting better and better, and my driving having another second or so in it, it’s not doing too badly for itself!

HI George!

Very cool vids of late… really great driving too!

Do they track day any other car in NZ apart from White Bimmer’s!!!

Interested in your set up… the car seems predictable when the rear lets go! What Geo settings and ride height are you running???

The ‘K’ sounds great all the way to 8000! :sunglasses: Are they 1444’s or 1227’s… must be putting out some good power now that it is run in!!!

Anyway, remember it’s only a Track Day mate so PLEASE don’t bin it ok!!!

Will make a point of jumping the ditch soon!

Cheers,

Pete.

Hi Pete,

Yeah the car is reasonably decently set up and I’ve used a setting I evolved from my old Elise, which I could play with sideways all day! They track plenty of cars here other than white BMWs, although a bunch of the guys from the BMW race series were racing the next day and were using the trackday as a tester.

Handling setup is as follows (from memory).
Camber: 1mm of shims still in all round on stock uprights. Think it’s 2 degrees camber in the front, about 2.7 degrees in the rear. Would be better to remove remaining camber shims, but I still use my car on the road a lot and like my tyres to last more than 40 miles. Run 2mm toe in each side in the rear, 1mm toe out overall in the front. Caster is all washers in front, as far castered as the stock setup will go.

Ride heights are 100/110 on stock sized wheels and tyres. Tyres are Toyo R888s, suspension are Hofmanns Nitron 1-way NTR race shocks with 450lb springs up front and 650lbs in the rear.

I also run a Quaife ATB diff, which takes some of the handling delicacy away and makes it more understeery, unless provoked, but pays dividends out of tight corners with over 200bhp.

Cams are 1444s. The engine’s still only at 8000 and making a lazy 215bhp, which is mainly down to the crap porting job on the stock ITBs and the stock VHPD manifold. In the nearish future, these bolt-on items will be getting some attention and that should give it another 15bhp or so.

And don’t worry, I don’t intend to bin it, I’ve not actually spun it yet since the rebuild, it’s that predictable and I’m still driving it well within myself… I’m only now just starting to lean on it a bit and it’s responding well. Make sure you hit me up if you’re ever in Auckland and we can go for a skid

Cheers George!!!
