Just wanted to give a mention to Forge and their customer service.
As a few of you know I had a couple of clearance problems when fitting my intercooler due to the single strut boot and we had settled on some solid bushes. When I took off the intercooler to fit my heat shield I found that the rear bracket had sheared, this was not on the weld or forge workmanship but the metal angle had given way.
I think this was due to the engine movement and the bushes being slightly too small causing a pulling effect (only noticed later).
Anyhow I contacted Forge on Sunday night, Monday at 8:30am I had a reply telling me to send it back, I sent it Tuesday for delivery before 12 Wednesday, Wednesday dinner Russell at Forge phoned to say they had it and were working on it, they sent it back the same day and it was here before dinner time today (Thursday). Now thats what I call service!
They have done a stunning job, all new brackets modified with strengthening infills, polished it up to chrome and supplied all new rubber mounting bobbins that give me plenty of clearence.
If anyone is thinking of going this way I cannot reccomend them enough. Its pretty rare to get such great service these days and I think they deserve a mention
did you get smaller rubber mounting bobbins from Forge? I have the same clearence problem with my intercooler. As a first step I have made some special shims to set the tailgate app. 5mm higher. But that is still not enough. Did you manage to use the one strut setup? My strut is also scraping on the IC. Therefore I am making an adapter with a new pivot point at the moment… .
Yes I used the smaller bobbins and they work a treat.
I have gone without the strut so far but would be grateful of some pictures of your solution for the bracket, it was something I thought about but have not got round to doing yet.
I have mailed Forge yesterday and got an answer within 30 minutes! They will send me the smaller bobbins today (shipped already yesterday). Unbelievable! What a great service.
So I will change the bobbins this weekend and also test my new adapter for the strut. I will let you know if it works…
did you have any problems with the fitting of the hoses when using the smaller bobbins? Because of the lower position of the IC the distance from inlet/outlet of the IC to the supercharger should be a litlle bit smaller. A further problem could be the alignment between the IC duct and the roof duct.
