Big brake kit?

I have a friend who was/is into ford capri’s,and along with a friend they came up with a big brake conversion for capri’s.he reckons if i can find out what the standard parts on the exige are from they could sort out a conversion for mine.So the question is what would be involved regarding parts(discs and calipers, what are they generic to etc…)and what would need to be fabricated from scratch.Any help and advice much appreciated.

What exactly is wrong with your existing brakes? Have you fitted braided hoses, SRF fluid, & Pagid RS14s?

Nope have’nt done any of that yet,but plan to supercharge some time in the future, plus i was just enquiring as to the fesability seeing as i have some willing helpers who would be prepared to do the work virtually free of charge, and an outlet for at cost parts.

I have slapped some RS14 on and they make a world of difference

Bigger brakes… more weight (unless they are ceramic I guess).

I’d stick with the standard ones as long as you haven’t run out of options with brakelines/fluids and pads.

Keep in mind that with bigger brakes you might also have to look for alloys with a different offset.

Have you just put the pads in or do you need to change the discs as well?

Just the pads

My 240R has the pagid pads and braided hoses and after 12 continuous laps of Silverstone GP there was absolutely no fade. I think you’d need 300 hp or be endurance racing before you need to do any more to them???

Is Silverstone really that heavy on brakes on a Lotus - most of the corners are fairly high speed?

Have a look at the 4 pot big brake conversion kit

Try the pads
Then try the braided hoses (need to take the front clam off )
Then if you are not happy go for the big brakes

I’ve been told by a Lotus specialist that the lines can be done without removing the clam though it is a bit of a fiddle.

I was going to do the lines and pads myself, but for two hours labour charge it doesn’t seem worth the trouble.

Does he know it’s an S2 Exige we’re talking about? Just hold him to the 2 hours labour, & don’t pay a penny more!
