BHP Vs AirCon

Not for the S1 boys maybe but is it really worth the extra horse power not putting it on. I mean I had lap after in complete climate comfort at Spa, actually at most places I track this time of year yet some (Marky ) get out of there cars looking like they’ve caught a fever or something. Surely the relative comfort of Air Con must be worth sacrificing most of what probably is to gain high end.

Ok start the abuse…

doesn’t it disengage automatically above 6k rpm? or is that a myth?

I,ve read in my S2 Exige S owners manual that the compressor for the aircon does switch off when full power is required.

According to the manual it cuts out at 9/10th’s throttle

I’ve had the same dilema with switching the air con on.

I have noticed that with the aircon on fuel consumption is inceased - especially on track

Just open the windows - it’s quicker and cheaper (cue all the ‘extra drag with the windows open’ posts !!! )

Most important thing here is to be comfortable (& therefore as safe as possible) on a trackday - so use the aircon when you need it! I wish my car had decent aircon fullstop. Some peeps, like Tarmac Terrorist, stay as cool as a cucumber, no matter what the temp when out on track, but others like me, start to dehydrate (yep sweat!) rather easily.

Gordon Brown will probably legislate soon anyhow :

A) He’ll say…In our nanny state you must be cool in your workplace (track)
OR …
B) You must not use aircon as it accellerates global warming.

One thing is certain though… He’ll come up with a way to tax it !

Yeah I had the air con on in my S2 at the Teeside day and it was great!!

I think I’m starting to lose my normal sense of perception here (nothing new there), but Mr P you do realise said Gav drives a 2-11…

//heading for the door & making a grab for mecoat//.

Otherwise, carry on as normal.

Although popular rumour suggests that your S2 doesn’t produce enough power to get you hot in the first place ?

Now now Dave!!! lol.

Its obviously my driving godlyness that makes it look so fast!!!

Ahh…so you’re admitting it’s not 250bhp then ?

I did look particularly nasty! Sweat was pouring off me. I have to conceed that you were right though - I started losing grip on the wheel, and i refuse to wear gloves, so I did sneakily start putting the air con on

Probably better than winding the windows down a bit!

I have cool a/c!!!

Great for those hot summer days??? tootling about between giving the beast stick!

I gather it weighs 19KG on the S1… but IMHO worth every kilo when it is needed… I have NEVER been hot in my Exige!

However… defo OFF when perf required!!! Cannot imagine the compressor spinning about at 8K!!!

So… If you have it… FLAUNT IT
