Best way to empty Oil Cooler on Oilchange

OK Guys

I’m sure the answer is on here somewhere, but I can’t find it!!

Just got my engine back from Dave Andrews with both a top and bottom end rebuild.

Dave has recommended running in for 600 miles on boggo GTX or similar to assist the running in process before going back to Fully Synthetic.

So, synthetic and mineral oils don’t like each other much, so I need to make sure the engine is properly drained when I change the oil. However the oil in the oil cooler stays put when you drain the engine as the pipes go over the front bulkhead and therefore the oil in the cooler cannot drain unless pumped.

Has anyone found an easy method (like not taking off clamshells) to get all the oil out of the cooler and pipes?

Cheers

A Happy Mark with new Engine

Hi Mark,

I wouldn’t worry if I was you. Both types of oil can surely mix, it’s just that their characteristics are so different that it’s recommended normally not to do it.
But the volume in the oil cooler is so small that you can just disregard it.
Just fill it up with the boggo oil and use it.

Same when changing to a good synthetic one, no worries.

PS - Now, if you’re talking engine coolant, that’s an entirely different matter, they don’t mix because they gell…
