best throttle bodies for K

Hi, have standard throttle bodies on my Mk1, heard that they are not the best, what are the best throttle bodies you can put on assuming money no object. Has anyone got any for sale?

Same question for ECU, what are the alternatives to the Emerald?

Thanks

The Exige throttle bodies are perfectly adequate , if you were buying from scratch then the Jenvey DTHTBs are the best available, but the differences are not worth the expense involved. The Jenvey TBs are lighter and which gives more flexibility in trumpet length, the throttle plates are much closer to the head which gives a better idle and greater precision of throttle control.

However to fit them you would need an airbox and Emerald ECU.

Hi Dave I have currently the R400/R500 TB’s. If I start with a new (2l) engine is it better to use the Jenvey’s and keep my (spare) R400 engine original or is it better to use the R400 tb’s on my new engine?

The RTBS are perfectly OK, if a little heavy, I would stick with them.

Why do you want an alternative? There maybe something technically better but all the knowledge of mapping a K to an Emerald has to increases its suitability.

Are they roller or butterfly?

Cheers, Ian

I would agree with Dave ,the bodies are a bit heavy. But still have a large diameter…in my opinion it is not worth swapping.

The Jenvey TBs are a regular throttle plate but the roller barrels dont reduce drag that much over a normal TB. Roller barrels are at their most useful when the inlet tract is not circular, I.E. ovalised, then the barrel can conform exactly to the port shape, therby reducing drag. As it happens the K inlet port is round so a conventional TB lines up rather well…

Comparing TB sizes can be misleading, as the inlet tract is tapered the position of the throttle plate will pretty much detemine it’s size, so a 45mm throttle plate 8 inches away from the inlet valve on a tapered system offers no more capacity than a 42mm throttle plate 3 inches away.

Thanks guys, looks like I will be keeping existing TB’s and getting an Emerald
