best paint protection film to get?

My armourfend has gone a bit yellow, namely down the sides of the car where it accumulates a load of dirt and black rubber streaks from track. I’d like to get new stuff put on at some point so I need to find a good place to do the work localish to York or Birmingham. The biggie is taking the existing film off without stripping any paint, then presumably the car needs properly prepped for the new film and some sort of detail wouldn’t go amiss at this point, finally it needs a good application of the PPF by someone with exige shaped panels

What views do you guys have on what the best film to get is? I have a local ventureshield guy though that’s been around for quite a long time and i know there are new self healing films out now. If anyone has any recommendations on what to get or who to do the work that’d be most appreciated.

Before you take anything off, try some brake cleaner and elbow grease on what you already have. It won’t remove the yellow, but will take off the rest of the dirt/rubber marks. May make it more bearable before you go for new.

I only have experience of the OE lotus stuff and Ventureshield, I had the latter fitted a couple of years ago, full kit done by Jarrod at Bodyguard in Daventry.

Very pleased with it, I had removed the OE stuff on the sill myself, it’s a sod to get all the residue glue off, bodyguard said they use a steamer to help do this.

Steamer is a really good idea. I took all the film off mine with a heat gun. It was a nervous afair but when I got it right the film and all the glue came off cleanly. Get it wrong and you can rip the top coat of paint off. A hair dryer is not hot enough, heat gun is too hot, steamer could be perfect.

You just need the stuff that is used to get the residue left behind from vinyl signs on cars/shop windows. Can’t remember the brand and I’m on holiday so can’t check for you. It’s safe to use on paintwork and smells good too! They sell it on eBay.

Iso-propyl alcohol (IPA) will remove most adhesive residues and is perfectly safe on paintwork.
